Read 21 December 2012 - The Calendar Beckons Page 15

“Folks, we have begun our descent to Mexico City where the weather is clear and a balmy 97 degrees. Slight breeze from the southwest at less than 10 mph. The local time is 7:15 Central Standard Time if you need to set your watches, we will be at the gate in less than two hours. We’d like the flight attendants to prepare the cabin for arrival and we want to thank you for flying Continental today. From all the flight crew we hope you have had a pleasant flight and hope to see you again real soon on another Continental flight.”

Turning to talk to his co-pilot, “Jim did I tell you this is my last flight? Retirement at the end of our return.”

“Sure did Captain, you deserve it...glad your last one was a peaceful uneventful flight.”

“Jim, we have flown a number of flights together - this is my last trip how about calling me ‘Huey’ like all my other friends do.”

“Thanks, uh, uh, Huey - friends huh?”

As the announcement of landing in Mexico City was being received by the passengers Lou, snapping shut his seat belt, said to Forrest, “Been a great flight now I’m looking forward to finding that Mayan Calandar.”

“Yeah, me too,” leaning over he said to Olive, “Okay, Sister, we’re getting ready to get you some real field work, you up for it?”

“You better believe it...Oh by the way you need to find the little man in 9D and tell him we are landing.”

Forrest looking across Bud and noticing the seat across the aisle was vacant turned to Olive Maria.

“Must be in the lavatory,” Forrest said. “I’m sure he heard the flight attendant’s announcement. Funny tho’ I didn’t see him get up and he has left his silver medallion and chain lying on the seat. He’s on an airplane, it’s not like he can go very far.” Hummm... if Forrest only knew!!!

“Continental 1425... Continental 1425... Mexico City... Reading you five by five (excellent strength and perfect clarity) you are cleared for landing... Runway 225...Wind NNW at 5... Ceiling unlimited... Report at outer marker...”

  “Continental 1425... Roger Mexico City...”

Back in the passenger area one attendant was talking to the passengers over the intercom: “Ladies and gentlemen, we have started our descent in preparation for landing in Mexico City. Please make sure your seat backs and tray tables are in their full up right position. Make sure your seat belt is securely fastened and all carry-on luggage is stowed underneath the seat in front of you or in the overhead bins. Please turn off all electronic devices until we are safety parked at the gate. Thank you for flying Continental. Hope we see you again real soon. Have a pleasant stay in Mexico....”

No one was paying much attention except the person sitting at rear of the plane who was uh, uh,

...a small highly agitated man in a golden suit adorned with an ethereal golden medallion and broken golden chain watching their every move...
