Read A Night To Forget Page 5

“All right, we will get him here. Just take the gun off Janet, Olivia,” Margaret pleaded.

Margaret called Robert and texted Richard. She figured both men needed to be there.

“Let’s move this party across the street to the park where we can have more family privacy,” Olivia stated with the gun in her purse. Janet and Margaret listened to Olivia and gathered their things and walked across the street. This was the quickest she saw her father and uncle show up to anything. As they pulled up to the park, a couple of minutes after, they found a secluded area in the park.

“Now that we are all here, let’s get started,” Olivia said with a smile.

  “What is this?” Richard questioned.

“Why would you bring my brother into this, Olivia?” Robert inquired ignoring Richard’s question but looking at Olivia.

“I figured as a family we should talk. Margaret, you have nothing to say to Richard,” Olivia smirked.

“Margaret, what have you done now? Who is this woman and what is she talking about?” Richard said puzzled.

“Richard, we haven’t spoken in years. Why do you think I did something?” Margaret snapped.

“Margaret, you were always into something,” Richard responded with an attitude.

“Can you two stop? Mom...dad,” Olivia interrupted looking at both Margaret and Richard.

“Margaret, you mean to tell me this is our daughter?” Richard was filled with fright and shock. “You knew about this?” Richard turned to ask Robert.

“I found out a couple months ago,” Robert said

Margaret and Janet stood in silence looking at each other. Margaret was more scared than Janet, given the information she just found out from the investigator…That Robert and Olivia murdered Elliot. Margaret had to think of something to say and fast, as all eyes were on her.

“Robert, let’s not act like we all don’t have secrets here. Elliot, the young man murdered in Janet’s building, was your son. He was the result of the affair you had with Richard’s wife. You and your own brother had him killed,” Margaret spat. For a moment, everyone stood in silence, shocked by the words that were just spoken.

  “WHAT!” Richard screamed.

“Wow, this keeps getting better and better. Wealthy families really do have a lot of shit in their cupboard,” Olivia smirked while pointing the gun at Janet.

Robert was in shock that Margaret even knew anything about Elliot. Before he could get a word out to explain, Richard tackled Olivia to the ground and took the gun. Richard turned and pointed it towards Robert.

“You bastard! Not only did you have sex with my wife, you had a baby together. Why am I just hearing this now? Then you are so much of a monster you attempted to frame your own daughter, and for what?” Richard screamed, demanding answers.

“Richard put the gun down, and I will explain everything. I mean, you can’t be too upset to throw your own child away and procreate with an underage woman,” Robert tried to reason with Richard. Janet started to cry; she had no idea what was going on and how her family has fallen apart all from one night that she didn’t understand.

“Explain it, Robert, because right now I will put a bullet in you, your daughter, and your wife the way that I am feeling,” Richard said with tears streaming down his face.

“I had a P.I investigate Margaret. After all these years, it was mind boggling that I didn’t really know much about her. It started out as me trying to find out who I was married to for so long and why her family never came around. Well, the investigator I was working with found out that you and Margaret were an item long before myself and Margaret.”

“Ron told you all of this? You just randomly one day decided to pay someone to tell you about me instead of just asking me?” Margaret interrupted.

“Margaret, let him explain. We will get to your part in this in a minute. Go on Robert!” Richard said pointing the gun at Margaret.

“How do you know Ron?” Robert questioned, turning to Margaret.

“Hey! Focus and tell me what the hell is going on,” Richard interrupted before Margaret could answer.

“Okay, okay, so I found out that you and Margaret had a child together… Olivia. Jealousy got the best of me. You told me you weren’t with Margaret and from our wedding night I was the first man to ever be with Margaret, or so I thought. Our whole marriage was built on a lie. I was filled with rage and revenge. I found Olivia and explained to her that I knew who her family was. I told her that I was her family. She was more interested in getting more money and being a part of the Ward name. I promised her that she would have all that and more if she did one thing, and that got rid of the only secret I had. See, I figured if I brought Olivia into our lives my secret would come out. So, I wanted to frame Janet and kill Margaret; she’s worth more dead than alive. I wanted a fresh start from all the lies brother. I wanted us to rise together and get rid of the baggage in our lives. You want to run for Senator? You can’t do that with our family history. If anyone else found this out, that would be the end of the road for us, our company, and our legacy,” Robert explained. As far as your son goes it was revenge. I hated you in that moment. I knew about Elliot, hell I been taken care of him and paying your wife to keep her mouth shut. You were so busy with business and planning to go into politics you really believed her stillborn story.

For a moment, everyone stood in silence. By this time, Margaret was crying while clinging to Janet. Margaret could not believe the mess she created and the secrets that were being revealed right in front of her. All this time, she thought she had a stand-up marriage minus her secrets, but she would never have thought her husband was filled with so much hate.

“Brother, you have actually messed up this time. Not only did you bring down your own family, but you brought mine down with yours. You slept with my wife and had a child. You are willing to send your own daughter to her early grave. You want to kill your wife, and you are using my own blood to help you carry out this ridiculous plan,” Richard said, still pointing the gun on Robert with his hands shaking uncontrollably.

“I don’t care about any of this shit honestly. You all threw me away like I was garbage and made me fend for myself. As far as I am concerned, everyone here can die, but not until I am paid. Daddy dearest wants to be Senator, and you think I would keep this whole thing to myself. I will be cashing in either way,” Olivia stood to her feet addressing everyone around her.

“How can you explain that the person that murdered Elliot was you, Olivia, and not me?” Janet questioned. It was the only thing she could address now. Her head was spinning from the words her own father just bestowed on her, on everyone.

“Since you asked, sissy, my daddy here will be the one to pull strings to make sure I don’t go to jail for Elliot’s murder, especially if he wants to have a seat in office,” Olivia smirked and winked at Janet. Just as Olivia turned to address Richard, the gun went off. Everyone ducked at the loud boom. Before Robert realized what happened, Janet started screaming. Robert looked around in shock to figure out what just happened. Richard was shaking, and Olivia was on the ground bleeding out with a gunshot wound to the chest.

“She had to die… She was going to ruin everything. She had to die,” Richard said with wide eyes and shaky hands.

“What have you done? Both of you are crazy! What did I get myself into?” Margaret sobbed while screaming at both Robert and Richard.

“We’re crazy? You’re the one who created this whole mess with your garden of lies,” Robert cried. “If you had just told me the truth from the moment I saved you from being homeless this wouldn’t have happened,” Robert explained.

“Everyone stop talking! What have I done? We need to go before the police come,” Richard interrupted, bringing himself back to reality. Margaret helped Janet to her feet. “Janet, he’s right, we have to go. You can’t be caught here right now, especially because you are being framed for murder. This does not look good,” Margaret explained to a sobbing
Janet. Robert started to run; he knew that this was all going to fall on him. He made the mistake of killing his own niece, son, and now ruining his daughter’s life forever. Janet stood to her feet and, through tears, the only words she could form were, “This will forever be a night to forget.”
