The sun rose in a mighty orange ball over the parched landscape.

“I still can’t believe I’m here. This is so amazing. I’m in Africa getting ready for a safari. Who would have ever guessed? I don’t think I can eat breakfast,” said Clara pushing her plate away.

“I am sorry to intrude, but I couldn’t help but overhear your remarks,” said a mysterious woman approaching their table. “It is so refreshing to hear a young lady so enthusiastic about something other than her clothes or the next social event.”

Clara’s companion rose from the table, “Madam. I am Captain Melvin Claudius Flump. This young lady is Miss Clara Davis.”

“It is so nice to meet you both. I am Mrs. Peabody. If I overheard you correctly, you will be joining our party this morning?”

“Yes, Mrs. Peabody,” said Clara, studying her newest friend.

“Splendid. I am looking forward to getting to know you,” said Mrs. Peabody, turning to leave. “But first I must see to a few last details.”

The Captain bowed as she left the table.

“She seems like a very vivacious woman. Full of life and spunk,” said the Captain. “It should be very interesting getting to know her.”

“She does seem as if she has a wonderful story to tell. There’s something about her.”

  “What do you mean?”

“I don’t know. I can’t put my finger on it, but it’s not like any of this is normal to me anyway.”

“Very true my dear. Let us finish our breakfast; we must meet up with our party at nine to start out.”

Mrs. Peabody walked through the club and disappeared around a corner. Clara reluctantly began eating her breakfast.
