Read Ashes, Ashes Page 6

I woke from a restless sleep full of dreams that I couldn't remember. I turned over, expecting Will to be right next to me. He wasn't. “Will,” I called out, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. That's when I realized that I was no longer wearing my night clothes. My usual shirt and shorts were absent from my body. In fact, I wasn't wearing anything. I was covered by one of my blankets but with nothing underneath. Nothing.

“Will,” I called again, just before he walked into my room. He'd clearly just gotten out of the shower. He was wearing only black boxers and his pure, white hair dripped water past his onyx eyes.

  He looked good. Really good.

“Good morning,” he said with a casual smile. At the word morning, I quickly looked to my window, but it was already covered by my thick black curtain. Will must have covered it before the sun rose. He had already turned my bedroom light on, too.

“Where the heck are my clothes?” I asked, remembering that I was upset. Wow, he was beautiful. Focus!

“Calm down,” he said, running his fingers through his hair. “Your clothes and sheets were covered in blood, so I put them in the hamper.”

“You couldn't get me a shirt or something,” I muttered.

“What are you so worried about? You wouldn't be the first girl I've seen naked.”

“I wouldn't be the last, either.” I breathed.

“Well, I hope you would be.”

I didn't have the energy to battle wits with Will. I left my room to get dressed in the bathroom. My outfit consisted of a black tutu skirt, a black&white striped tank, and fishnet thigh-highs with my black converse. I rushed through my black eyeliner make-up before walking downstairs to grab something to eat. Will was unfortunately stuck in my room as Brittany didn't have curtains that were strong enough to keep out the sun.

After I finished my food, I checked my cell, no new messages. I was sure I could remember someone calling last night. Brittany wasn't supposed to call but if she was gone for a few days, I always hoped that she would call just to check in. Just in case. I put my cell back in my pocket, just as the home phone rang. Interesting. No one ever called us on that line. But hadn't someone called early this morning? My mind was fuzzy.

“I'll get it,” I said, not like anyone else would get it. Will was still up in my bedroom doing who knew what. I picked up the phone and was met with the calm voice of a nurse. I rushed upstairs to Will.

“Brittany is in the hospital. She was in an accident.”
