of them looks different. It takes a bit of time for it to register in Kent’s mind, but one of the men has blue skin. The Nazis have recruited aliens to their cause.
When Kent faces the people in the alley, they know by the look on his face that things may be worse than they even thought.
“What? What did you see?” the concerned Sally blurts out.
“Three of them. All armed. Two Germans. One alien.”
They all stare at Kent dumbstruck. The man in the glasses speaks up.
“Did you say alien? How do you know?”
“He looks like one of us, but he’s got blue skin. I don’t know what else he could be.”
The girl who seemed to have calmed down buries her face in her boyfriend’s chest and starts to sob. Sally rolls her eyes and speaks up;
“That doesn’t change anything. We still need to find a way out of here, we just need to do it faster than before.”
The homeless man picks a piece of wood off the ground.
“Ta hell with that! I’m going down fighting not running! Who’s with me?”
Before anybody can respond the homeless man runs out of the alley. Kent tries to stop him, but the man is surprisingly fast. He sprints toward the Nazis standing in the street, swinging the piece of wood over his head. One of the human Nazis points at the homeless man, alerting his partners to the incoming threat. The man lets out a battle cry of;
“DIE KRAUT SCUM!”
The blue-skinned alien raises his weapon and fires it at its attacker. A beam of light shoots out of the gun and strikes the man in the chest. The man explodes into a cloud of gore and bone fragments. A smile comes across the alien’s face when he notices the fairly intact feet of the man still in their shoes.
In the alley Kent, Sally, and the others looked on in horror while the homeless man was blown to bits. The man in the glasses says;
“We’re not going to be able to escape anymore, are we?”
In the street the Nazis begin to speak to each other. Kent’s German is a little rusty, but he thinks he hears one of them say “I think there are more of them that way.”
“No, I don’t think so,” says Kent grimly, “That stupid man just cost us our chance. It looks like we’ll have to fight our way to freedom. We should get them while they still don’t know how many of us are here. Who’s coming with me?”
Four of the men and Sally raise their hands.
“You five are with me. Sally, you’re staying here.”
“Like hell, I am. I’m not going to wait here in a dirty alley to die. I’ll go down fighting just like you.”
Rather than argue and waste more time Kent agrees with a “Fine,” He picks a garbage can lid and a rusty pipe off of the ground. “Find something you can cave their heads in with.”
Kent hands the pipe to Sally and readies himself to run out and fight, but the man in the glasses stops him.
“Wait a second?”
“What?”
“Let’s push this garbage bin into the street. It’s got wheels, they’re downhill. It’ll be a good distraction before we attack.”
“What’s your name?”
“Daniel.”
“Good idea, Daniel. I’m Kent, by the way.”
Kent and Daniel get behind the large bin. Kent decides to say one last thing before they launch their attack.
“After we push this out, I’m going to be the first one out there. The rest of you follow behind me and fight for your lives. Keep out of their aim and disarm them as quickly as possible and we’ll all make it out of this. Okay. One… two… three!”
Kent and Daniel push the bin into the street as hard as they can. It sails towards the Nazis, catching them off guard, hitting one of the two humans straight on, running him over. Kent darts into the street and throws the garbage can lid like a discus. The lid bounces off the head of the alien, knocking him down. Kent runs at the last Nazi standing. The blonde haired, blue eyed monster shoots at Kent, but he manages to dodge the blast. Kent tackles the Nazi. It’s like hitting a brick wall, but he still manages to knock the Nazi down. Kent doesn’t let up at all. As soon as he gets his bearings, he pulls back his arm and lays a punch into the jaw of the Nazi as hard as he can. The Nazi appears unaffected by the blow, grabbing at Kent’s throat, trying to choke him. He drives his fist into the Nazi’s head over and over.
Kent hears the blasters of the other two Nazi’s going off and he prays they aren’t hitting their targets. Kent can’t worry about that for long as the Nazi he’s dealing with finally wraps his hands around Kent’s throat. The Nazi spits a tooth out and grins at him.
“Hit me as many times as you want, American, I will still kill you.”
Kent feels his lungs emptying, but he finds the strength to give one last strong punch. The Nazi’s grip doesn’t loosen at all. Kent thinks to himself that this must be the end, but then he hears; “Look out, loverboy.” The Nazi’s eyes go wide. Sally uses the pipe, given to her by Kent, driving it through the Nazi’s left eyehole. His body trembles and his grip on Kent’s throat loosens.
“Are you okay?” Sally asks.
“I’m happy you decided to fight with us.” Kent says through a fit of coughs.
“You’re welcome.”
They hear the sound of a laser blast followed by the splatting noise of blood and body parts hitting the pavement. A split second after, Kent and Sally hear the blast-splat combination again. They look at the source of the noise, seeing the gore and destruction before them. The alien Nazi shoots a third man, whose body sprays across the side of a building. Kent does the math and realizes that only he, Sally, and Daniel are left standing. Suddenly he hears;
“IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, GET OUT OF THE WAY!”
The Nazis look at the source of the voice. Before they know it, they are both struck by laser blasts, destroying their bodies. Kent and Sally wait for the blood cloud to clear so they can see their savior. In a day of unbelievable things, Kent sees one more thing that he can’t believe; a priest, wearing black pants and a black shirt with a white collar, holding a double barreled laser-blaster.
“You three and the rest of your friends in the alley need to come with me,” says the warrior priest. “And pick up their weapons, it’s dangerous to leave things like that in the middle of the street.”
The priest starts walking down the street at an incredibly fast pace for a man his age. He looks to be in his late seventies and is maybe five-feet-five-inches tall, one hundred forty pounds. The alien weapon he holds is almost as large as he is.
Sally helps Kent to his feet.
“I guess we should follow him.”
“Sounds like a good idea.” replies Kent, who picks one of the Nazi’s guns off the ground and signals for the people in the alley to follow after them. Daniel and Sally pick up the other two Nazi weapons.
“Are we sure we can trust this guy?” Daniel asks Sally. “He’s got a gun like theirs.”
“Yeah, but his is bigger.”
Kent catches up to the speed-walking priest.
“Thank you for saving us sir-”
“You’re mighty welcome son, but there’s war in the streets. No time for talking!”
The priest speeds ahead, leaving Kent behind. The group, now down to nine people total, tries its best to follow after him. The priest walks up to a medium sized church sandwiched between two large office buildings and enters through the large double doors. Kent and the group enter after him. The sign above the door says “The Church of Our Holy Redeemer.” Once they’re inside, the doors loudly shut behind them. The inside of the church is dimly lit by candles. Not much light comes in through the dark stained glass windows, which show the Stations of the Cross.
“Follow me. We need to go through here everybody.” says the priest as he walks past the altar and opens a door next to the tabernacle. Daniel speaks up; “Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Why should we trust you?”
“Oh. Hello, I’m Father Peter and I saved your life. Now please,
follow me down these stairs.”
Father Peter walks down the stairs without waiting for a response from Daniel and the group.
“Well, I guess that’s enough.” Sally tells Daniel.
The group follows after Father Peter. They walk slowly as to not trip down the steep, unlit staircase. They all stand in the dark basement of the church, waiting for some light.
“Now when I turn on the light I’m going to need all of you to be completely relaxed. No matter what happens, you all need to stay calm. Can you do that?”
“Yes.” they all say at once.
Father Peter flips on a light. It’s harsh on his eyes at first, but Kent is able to see the shape of an unfamiliar person standing in front of him. As his eyes adjust, Kent notices that the person isn’t a person at all. It’s a blue skinned alien wearing a white t-shirt and brown slacks. The group reacts just as Father Peter thought they would.
“AHHHHHHH!”
“What’s it doing here?”
“Somebody shoot it!”
“They found us.”
“Run!”
Father Peter raises his voice to stop the panic;
“EVERYBODY CALM DOWN! HE’S ON OUR SIDE!”
“What! Wait, everybody. How do you know that?” says Kent.
“What’s your name, son?”
“My name’s Kent.”
“Kent, please tell your two friends to stop pointing their weapons at my friend and I, and I will gladly tell you.”
“Sally, Daniel; let’s hear them out. Put down the guns for now.”
“Are you sure?” says Sally.
“I think we can trust them.”
Sally and Daniel look at each other and then they both aim their guns away from
