the heavy door, opening an iron chest and held out the Ganesh statue from the wooden box both of which I had seen long ago.

  By her direction a scantily dressed voluptuous girl in early twenties accompanied me to the exit of the building. As she did not return even after I had stepped out I looked questioningly at her. The girl blushed and with lowered eyes said, ‘The boss has ordered me to entertain you.’

  ‘No need’, I could not suppress the chagrin and anger in my voice.

  I lighted a cigarette. My senses were benumbed and a deep feeling of defeat and abandon took possession of my soul. The street lights peeping through the trees lining the road appeared mystic. I could discover a traveler’s office at a market place and booked an early morning flight for Manila for the next day.

  The Author

  The author of this story is a Ph.D. in economics and professionally an economist but his passion for literature occasionally robs him out of the dry arena of economics to the world of love romance and adventure. From his very childhood his favorite hobbies included swimming in turbulent rivers during the rains, deep-sea boating, small game hunting, boxing, hill trekking and adventure in wild animal infested deep forests. Later on he gave up hunting and boxing considering them to be cruel sports. He had visited various islands of the Philippines and became well acquainted with the Filipinos, especially the Charming and Sweet Filipina girls.
