Read Butterflies- The Adventures of Roland Mccray Page 6

looking proud, as though she’d done her job and protected me from some dangerous animal.

Susie never caught a rabbit, but she loved the chase! And I was glad the rabbit always got way, because I had no idea what to do if she did catch one. Once in a while, since she always ran ahead of me, Susie would come across a snake or a box turtle in the woods near the creek. Since there was no chase, she’d just jump up and down around it, barking constantly until I caught up with her. It was like she was the one watching out for me.

When I got home that day, I sat on the back step and let Susie climb all over me and lick my face, while I hugged and petted her. I couldn’t get the image of that poor dead dog out of my mind.

“What’s gotten into you?” Mom asked.

“Nothing,” I said and smiled as I held Susie. “Hey, after lunch I’m going down to the creek; I want to let Susie run through the woods for a while.”

I had a lot of fun writing these stories about Roland McCray and published them in the hope that others might enjoy reading them-- and I hope that I’ve succeeded. The first two collections of stories in the “Adventures of Roland McCray” series, “Tunnels in the Briar Patch” and “Finding Luck with Roland McCray” (Roland in his teen years) are combined in a single volume, “Finding Roland McCray”. I think combining the first two volumes makes for a smoother reading experience and hope readers agree. Those and my other books can be found here: Profile Page

I want to be able to add more stories about Roland to the series and Indie authors live or die by reader support, so an honest review wherever you purchased this book will be greatly appreciated and will help me to be able to continue to explore Roland McCray’s life, and write other books to share with anyone wo’s interested. If you enjoyed these stories, I will sincerely appreciate it if you’ll help spread the word with your friends, or share a link to the Roland McCray stories on social media sites. I don’t mean to sound repetitive, but I can’t stress it enough: Indie authors live or die on reader support or the lack of it.
