Lillie D. Shockney, R.N., B.S., M.A.S., is director of the Johns Hopkins Breast Center, an oncology nurse, and two-time breast cancer survivor. She has received more than twenty-five national awards related to her work in breast cancer and has written four books and more than seventy articles on the subject.
Susan Stava lives and works as a registered nurse in the Denver, Colorado, area. She celebrates more than twenty years in what she considers to be one of the hardest and best professions in the world.
Delores Treffer received her diploma in nursing in 1969. She practiced as a registered nurse until 1997. After 1997, Delores began a career in medical transcribing. She is married and has two children and one grandchild. She frequently writes short articles for a county newspaper. She enjoys family, friends, and her church.
Judith Weinland Thompson has been publishing how-to articles and short stories since 1988. She has two grown daughters and, having lived as many years in North Carolina as she has in Ohio, fondly refers to herself as a Nutherner.
Kerrie G. Weitzel received her bachelor of arts in English education/ psychology with honors in 1971. She is currently working on a novel and a children’s book. She has had one book published, The Innkeeper’s Wife. She lives in Colorado where she enjoys life. E-mail her at

Gail Wenos is a humorist, ventriloquist, and president of Gail and Ezra Ministries, Inc. Together, Gail and her dummy, “Ezra,” bring touches of love to the elderly. Anne Wilson currently teaches university writing, English, and theater arts courses at several universities in California, but was formerly a nurse among the terminally ill in Albuquerque. Her writings were published extensively in religious/spiritual magazines and journals from 1980–96.
