If there has never been a time when you invited Jesus into your life to be your Lord and Savior, I would be honored to tell you how. It’s really very simple, but you need to know it’s a very serious commitment. That means you need to open your heart and come clean before God. But don’t worry. He already knows every inch of your heart. He just wants you to be willing to give it to Him completely.

It’s important to know that God created us for one purpose: to have a loving relationship with Him. Most of us want to be our own boss because we grow up thinking the world revolves around us. But there can be only one boss, and that is God. In Romans 3:23 we’re told that we’ve all sinned. All of us. That means you and me. And as long as there is sin in our lives, we’re separated from God.

But God had a plan. He made a way for us to bridge that gap by giving us His Son Jesus Christ. Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

So how do I follow His plan?

  1. First, I admit that God has not been Lord of my life, and then confess my sins. He has promised to forgive us: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”

  (1 John 1:9).

  2. I acknowledge that Jesus died to pay for my sins. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

  3. I receive God’s free gift of salvation. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

  4. Finally, I invite Jesus to be the Lord of my life. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).

Commitment to Christ is a personal decision you have to make. It’s not something decided for you by your parents or family or friends. It’s just between you and God. If you believe that you are ready to make this most important decision you’ll ever make—to invite Jesus into your heart to be your Lord and Savior—then all you need to do is pray this simple prayer.

  Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank you for loving me even when I was unlovable and ignored You. I realize now how much I need You in my life. I know that I am a sinner, and I’m sorry for the things I’ve done that I shouldn’t have. As best I know how, I ask for Your forgiveness. Please come into my heart and cleanse my life. I believe that You died on the cross and rose from the grave to give me life. I know You are the only way to God. In this moment, I give my life to You and ask You to help me live a life that honors You. Amen

Congratulations! Did you know that all of heaven is rejoicing in your decision to become a child of God? That means there’s a party going on in your honor right now! Let me be the first to welcome you to the family of God, my friend. And this is just the beginning! It’s so important to learn more about the Lord you have just committed your life to, and the best way to do that is to find a Bible-believing church where you can study His Word and surround yourself with others in the family of God. Don’t be afraid to shop around until you find a congregation that is sold out to Christ. Then get involved and start your journey in a fellowship of believers living for Christ!
