"Men make those decisions more quickly than women. I've had clients who thought they were in love with me after just an evening together." Iza remarked with little emotion.
"That must be tough for you." Darek replied.
"Not at all. It's good for business. I often see them many times before they realize that they have no hope."
"Yeah, but couldn't this get dangerous. I mean, they could get angry and violent. They could even start stalking you." Darek said, with serious concern.
"And they have. I've had a few problems", Iza admitted, looking slightly uneasy. "That's why we have Marek."
"Who's Marek?"
"He…let's just say he takes care of the girls. Maria has two guys who work for her. When I'm introduced to a client, Marek is always there. He picks me up later or when I call. He always tells them to be good to me. He tells them he'll be there to pick me up. If you saw Marek, you'd know that you don't want t him to get angry at you. Whenever I think a guy is getting out of hand, I only have to mention Marek's name and everything is cool."
"I see. Do you see any problem with Helen's husband?"
"Michael?" Iza remarked with a laugh. "You must be kidding. He probably thinks he's doing me a favor by spending time with me. But it's going to be quite a blow to his ego when I tell him it won't work out."
"When will that be?" Asked Darek.
"Soon." Iza replied.
"But how will that help me?" Darek asked, concerned now with whether Helen would have any reason to leave him.
"Because I'll first say that he has to at least tell her about us. He'll do it because, by that time, he won't want to lose me. She'll be upset, of course. You understand that, right? She'll feel stupid that she let him have this last chance. She'll blame herself and probably blame you, for some reason. She'll want to know details about me, even though she secretly doesn't want to know them. She'll ask the same tired questions that every cheated on woman in history asks. Do you love her? Do you plan to keep seeing her? Did you sleep with her? Probably in that order. In the end, though, she's the one who'll have to make the decision about staying with him or not."
"Do you really think she would stay with him after this?" Darek asked, incredulously.
"It's possible. It depends on her level of self-esteem. But I want to do my job well. I expect he'll tell her that he stopped seeing me and that he didn't love me."
"Of course, he's not stupid enough to say otherwise", Darek agreed.
"And this is where your investment in me will pay off." Iza said with a smile. "I'll make it clear to her that he is still seeing me and that he loves me."
"But if he loves you like you say he does, why couldn't you just force him to get a separation from her?" Darek asked. "I think that would make it easier for me. It would finally show her what little concern he has for his marriage and family."
"Yeah, I thought about playing the separation angle, but there's an objection to it besides the fact that she could always blame you for destroying her marriage. You have to understand that he'll never separate from his wife."
"Why?" Darek asked, perplexed by Iza's certainty.
"Because he's a classic narcissist. He wants everyone to believe that he has the perfect marriage, the perfect family, and that he's a perfect husband. He needs this more than anything. He has no self-esteem on his own. He only gets it through what others think of him. A separation would show everyone all this perfection was not true…especially the belief that he's the perfect guy. No, Darek, he'll cling to this marriage for dear life. You should realize this. Even if Helen wants to leave, he'll do whatever it takes to make her stay."
"Like agreeing to see a priest," Darek remarked sarcastically.
"Like agreeing to see a priest", Iza repeated.
"But it's not just her. A lot of women, when they see their husband or boyfriend crying and begging for forgiveness, just don't have the heart to throw him out. They don't really respect him, but they feel a sudden sympathy for him. Of course, this is what the guy is banking on. Michael didn't choose this particular woman for his wife by accident. He chose her because he knew she would always be forgiving. It's all been planned, maybe not consciously, but it's the deciding factor in why womanizers finally decide to commit to one woman. You see, in his mind, it means he doesn't really have to give up other women at all."
