  Wiggles walked out of the intensive care unit. Katie sat at the nurse’s desk.

  “Any news on the security guard?”

  Katie shook her head, and looked downcast.

  The Constable started to turn away.

  “Constable,” she said.

  He stopped and looked back.

  “Sorry,” said Katie. “I meant it’s too late. The guard passed away while you were with Daisy. I’m sorry.”

  “From what Daisy told us, he made a good end of himself. He’s the reason they’re not all dead.” Wiggles tapped the counter. Turning, he walked away.

  Gumshoe sized up the look on Wiggles’ face. “I take it the security guard didn’t make it.”

  “Yeah,” said Wiggles. “He’s gone.”

  “If the body count goes any higher,” muttered Shotgun. “They’ll make a video game out of the Zodiac murders.”

  “Can we take a look at the other patients?” asked Jack.

  “Why not?” sighed Wiggles. The portly constable patted his girth. “We don’t have an escort, and there’s no one stopping us.”
