Read Cretaceous Clay and The Black Dwarf Page 31

A great red dragon sunbathed under the stage lights enjoying the warm glow. He filled nearly the whole of a small sound stage.

“Welcome to the book trailer for Cretaceous Clay and the Ninth Ring. It’s called a trailer since it trails the first book.” The dragon chuckled at his little pun, and the notes sent shivers through the crew and cast alike.

“We hope ‘The Black Dwarf’ was a quick read. If you liked the first book, we think you’ll like the next.”

Evan Labe walked up to a camp chair marked with a golden star. The hot dwarf struck a swarthy pose and winked at the camera. He spoke a bit stiffly as if he were reading a cue card. “So Kevin, what are we going to say?”

“Maybe we should start by welcoming the Gentle Readers to the end of the book?”

“Kevin, they know it’s the end of the book.”

“Maybe we can explain why we are pitching the next book?”

“Good idea, Kevin, pitching the next book gives us a chance to introduce ourselves to the Gentle Readers. I’m Evan Labe, and with me is Kevin the Clever. We portray the bad guys in the Cretaceous Clay series. Kevin plays the Dragon Lord, and I play Nimrod who styles himself the Black Dwarf. The Professor wanted the folks to meet us. After all, I only get a couple of chapters of the first book as myself. I spend the rest of the series possessed by the wicked warlock.”

“You’re complaining?” asked Kevin. “Unless she reads the end papers, no Gentle Reader even knows my name. The Gentle Readers might not realize I’m Noddie’s father, Kraken, the King of the Leviathans in the series. The scene where Noddie discovers I’ve been possessed by the Dragon Lord hasn’t even been approved yet.”

Evan glanced at the script and blushed. “Kevin, we’re running out of room.” With great enthusiasm Evan said, “What happened to Jack and Shotgun?”

“Oh no!” replied the dragon in a silly tone. “Did they survive Nimrod’s attack?”

“Will the valiant mage and his intrepid sidekick defeat the Black Dwarf?” Evan answered melodramatically.

“Find out in our next exciting episode,” finished the dragon, “Cretaceous Clay and the Ninth Ring!”

“Cut, that’s a wrap,” yelled a potbellied man wearing a fishing hat.

  Acknowledgements

Few books come to the market without the help of more than a few people.

First, I would very much like to thank you, Gentle Reader, for sharing my passion for Cretaceous Clay and all of his friends. Jack was one of my boyhood friends and I’m glad to know others like him too.

If you haven’t done so already, please, please, please, review the book on your favorite site. A thoughtful, four-star review is better than a five-star review. Remember this is no time to skimp on praise!

If you borrowed this book or shared it, because you can’t afford it, please, please, please, spread the word. It’s only a few pennies, but it helps so much more than you know.

My heartfelt thanks go out to my family who made mighty sacrifices to keep us afloat.

Thanks also go to my real-time friends for their encouragement, and my on-line friends for their support.

Thanks go to my Twitter friends from all over the world for their tweets. Even friends in Brazil, Germany, India, Japan, Norway, and the Philippines tweeted us! Without these wonderful people, no one would know about Jack Clay.

Special thanks go to David Caldwell for providing a detailed list of seventeen typos and several suggestions. My editor, Tina provided invaluable assistance.

Last but not least, I must acknowledge the former and current occupants of the White House who gave me plenty of incentive to follow my dreams. Though, I suspect they could not have written these novels without me.
