Read Crinckle Cut Farm Page 3

the farm was haunted. Although Carol usually chuckled at the thought of ghosts or anything remotely supernatural, she couldn't see any other explanation for all the things that were happening.

'Could this place actually be haunted?' She quizzed herself. She looked through more of the newspaper cut outs and read more into Crinkle Farm, discovering that shortly after the murders, a company called Wrangles Inc bought the farm and were planning to use it as some type of attraction. But according to this, that was many years ago.

'Come on Carol, you go to find a way out of here!' She looked around for a window or another way out, but there was nothing except solid walls. She ran back up the stairs and banged on the door. To her complete shock, it flung open.

The front door of the house was still wide open and the heavy rain was taking no prisoners.

Carol snuck up the stairs and into Aaron's room, 'hey, Aaron, we got to get out of here!'

'What's going on?' Aaron asked, rubbing his eyes aggressively, 'and where's Dad?'

'I... I don't know. Look, we go to get out of here now!' The sound of the front door slamming shut echoed all the way into the bedroom.

'What was that?' Aaron asked, beginning to go pale. The floor boards downstairs began to squeak and a sound of wet boots dragging emerged. Carol's blood began to rush like an engine at full throttle and her throat was so dry it was almost stuck together. 'Aaron, listen to me very carefully, I don't think that that's your farther. I am going to give you hand to get out of this window and I want you to climb down. When you get down, I want you run as fast as you can, go past the jeep, don't look inside and no matter what you see or hear, don't stop! - Just run until you find a house and call for help!'

  'But...'

'No buts! Now go!' Carol put his thick coat around him and helped him out of the window; she began rushing him when she heard the wet rubbery shoes coming up the stairs. She saw Aaron get to the ground and run into the distance.

She turned around and could see the shadow of the shoes from underneath the door. She stepped back until the cold wall touched her back, she remained iced over and held the kitchen knife out in front of her, trembling. The door creaked as it gently opened and Carol was faced with a man with a long green trench coat, with the hood so low that it concealed his face. The creepy man stood completely still - droplets of water from his coat fell onto the hard floor as they stared at one another.

Carol waved the kitchen knife, slicing though the cold air, 'stay back! Or I swear I'll...' The intimidating man was so tall that his head almost hit the top of the door frame as he entered the small room.

'I said stay back!' She desperately began wishing that was only a nightmare and hoped that she would awake any minute.

'Hey! I said, back off!' She screamed, but the man kept creeping forwards. Carol began swinging the knife more violently. Her face dropped and her eyes almost bulged out of their sockets when he removed a huge knife, almost twice the size of hers. He swung the knife at her; she screamed and crouched underneath his arm. She ran out of the room and leapt for the stairs; she slipped down and fell to the bottom

She banged her head again and everything became blurry. She looked back and could see the heavy boots coming down the stairs. She struggled to her feet and stumbled out of the door, and ran towards the jeep. When she climbed in, she noticed that Jim's keys were wedged in the ignition. She got in and slammed the door shut, she turned and checked the back seat - it was clear. She turned the key and the engine revved up, she put the car in reverse and put her foot down. When she looked in front the strange man in the hooded coat was standing right in front of her. Carol stared at him in anger, clenching her jaw; she floored the Jeep and stormed towards him. The man didn't move, he stood frozen like a dear on a country lane. A cold feeling rushed through Carol and before she knew it she hit him and sent him tumbling across the ground. Carol’s eyes where glazed and her hands were glued to the steering wheel. She wanted to drive off and find Aaron but the idea of leaving Jim was killing her. She couldn't do it, she got out of the jeep and crept past the hooded man lying on the ground – the thought of him leaping to his feet and grabbing her played on her mind. Deep down she knew that no one could have survived that type of impact, especially with the Jeep's metal bars running across the front, but still she held her breath and ran past as fast as she could.

There was an ear splitting scream from the rusty hinges as the wonky, barn door staggered open. Inside, she was blinded by the darkness and a revolting smell hit her nostrils hard, making her stomach stir. Her hands quivered as she reached into her trouser pocket and removed a cigarette lighter, it sparked twice before she saw a flame. The lighter lit the way further into the creepy bar. There was no sign of any animals nor did it look it like it had catered for any in years. She clenched her mouth in a desperate bid to stop her teeth from rattling and she was pretty sure that her trembling knees would give way any minute. She cautiously moved forward, she could see long wooden beams running along the tatty old barn. There were lots of rooms, separated by the beams but they were all empty. There was an echo of liquid dripping – at first, carol thought there may be a leak in the roof but as she got closer to the back of the barn, she noticed a large pool of blood. She raised the lighter and screamed as she got sight of Jim, who was strung up in chains.

His body had been mutilated, his insides were dangling out of him like snakes, most of his fingers had been cut off and his eyes had been torn out of their sockets. Carol ran out of the barn with tears rolling down her cheeks. When she got outside, the body of the man had disappeared. She ran to the Jeep and slammed the door and locked it. She floored the pedal and the thick tires spun aggressively, splashing mud all up the sides of the vehicle. She struggled to keep control at the high speed she was going; a few minutes down the road, she slammed on the brakes and noticed the moving lorry that they had been waiting for. It looked like it'd had a collision with a tree. The front end was crushed and there was blood all over the doors and windows. She decided against getting out and investigating – she continued driving, all the while, frantically looking around for Aaron.

She slowed the car down when she heard shuffling, and that's when she realised that she'd forgotten to check the back seat. She looked into the rear view mirror and noticed the hooded man sitting in the back. She screamed and hit the brakes, the car skidded and swerved. She reached for the door handle but it was too late, she could see the glimmer of the blade in the corner of her eye and within seconds, she could feel the warm trickle of blood spraying out of her throat. She instantly began choking. The hooded man tilted his head and stared at her calmly and watched until her last breath left her. He used her coat to wipe his blade and whistled as he stepped out of the car and walked back towards the farm.

In a large room with white walls not too far from the farm, a group of smartly dressed men and women were sat in front of small desks and large computer screens.

'Ladies and gents, I hope your experience with Wrangles has been pleasurable and I think it's safe to say that the green team won this one – both Mr. and Mrs. seemed convinced that Crinkle Farm was truly haunted, so... well done!' A tall man with receding hair said loudly. A few of the men and one woman sitting on the left side of the room, smiled and nodded, looking pleased with themselves. One of the men stood up, 'what about the bodies?' He asked, looking a little worried.

'You let us worry about that.'

'What about the boy?' The same man asked.

'Ah, yes the boy... ladies and gents please swipe your cards on the side of your screens if you would like a crack at level 2.
