  Tiffany reluctantly maintained her watch over the occupants of the room but spent much of her depleting energies listening for whatever was taking place at the front of the house. The twins, who had oddly enough been sitting quietly in the dark, suddenly turned in unison and focused on the window opposite them. Then incredibly, they threw themselves onto their little faces as if throwing some silent tantrum. It all happened in a moment.

  Tiffany turned, and was immediately taken aback as Nathaniel came crashing through the window like a missile. She did not have time to scream or yelp in surprise as glass and pieces of wood and sheet rock and other building materials exploded about the room. The force of the attack drove her across the foot of the king size bed and into the opposite wall…

  Michael rolled off the bed and landed as carefully atop his children as he could, hoping to shield their heads and faces from the materials raining down all around them. The pain from just rolling off the bed was excruciating enough, but he had to ignore it. There would be time to hurt later, he knew. Right now was all that they could hope for. Vanessa had material rain down upon her, too, before she finally dove for cover…
