Mark got off of the wall that he had been leaning against and moved toward the glass. “Run, mayor! Run!”
Vincent stepped back after his last kick, not really noticing the woman enter until she had shouted. He quickly spun and made a move toward her. The mayor did not move. She was frozen in place. She was too busy attempting to determine the nature of what she had stumbled upon and understanding nothing.
“Vincent?” Nathaniel shouted, but did not wait to see whether the vampire would stop and turn back before killing yet another human being, no matter how innocent. He simply glanced left, and quickly slammed his left hand across the bank of light switches, closing his eyes tight as he did so.
Vincent screamed and Mark ducked down the hallway as the florescent lights leapt to life, momentarily blinding vampire and man alike. The light was not true light, but it would give Nathaniel just the opening that he needed to strike. Squinting, Nathaniel threw everything that he had into the wounded door. It gave with a yelp, breaking the last of the lock and collapsing forward, catching Vincent square in the middle of the back, knocking him off balance and onto the tiled floor.
As if overwhelmed by extreme panic, Michael quickly ran out of the room and headed for the chief’s office, leaving Barbara behind.
