“Dax, how do you feel about your mate fighting alongside us?”

“Her power is our tipping point in this war. I will protect her with my life, but I would not deny her her purpose.”

“We'll have to decide how this is going to work exactly. I don't feel comfortable taking one of our mates into battle with us,” Kian said.

“We still don't know if we need her song during the battle, or if it will fortify us for an extended period,” Cato said. “I will run an analysis and then we will know for sure.”

“You're very brave,” Everly said to Aria.

“Only as brave as I have to be. When you have a big, strong dragon like Dax to protect you, it's easy to be courageous.”

“I know what you mean,” Everly said, cradling Ember in her arms. “We all want to bring an end to the vampires’ reign over this planet. And I hope that with your power, we will make progress.”

“I hope so too,” Aria said.

After the meeting they went outside to enjoy the sunny day. Kian was at the grill, barbecuing steaks, burgers, and hotdogs. Everly played with Ember on the grass. Dax swam with Aria in the pool. Cato was still running an analysis and Aiden strummed his guitar.

“I was so happy to hear what you said in there,” Dax said to Aria.

“You mean that I wanted to fight the vampires?”

“That you felt like you’d found your place in the world.”

“I do. I feel like I'm finally home. For the first time in my life. After losing my mom and moving around all throughout my childhood, I never felt connected to anything. Singing to the elderly in the nursing home was the closest I've ever come to feeling like I belonged. But now, I feel like I can really make a difference in the world; contribute in a way I never anticipated.”

“Even without your power, you're still special and important,” Dax said, gathering her in his arms. “I need you to know that.”

“I do know that, Dax. And I love how you look at me and who I am with you. It’s like I can finally understand myself and my needs. I know now that helping the dragons defeat the vampires is my life purpose. You helped me discover that.”

“And you have helped me discover my life purpose,” he said, kissing her shoulder. “Taking care of you. I will always protect you, my little bird. No matter what battles we fight. I will always be your warrior. To hold back the tide of hate and greed so that you can spread your light across the planet.”

“Oh Dax, you are the sweetest man.”

“Maybe you two should get a room,” Aiden grumbled from one of the lawn chairs.

“You're just jealous because you haven't found your mate yet,” Dax snarled from the pool.

“I'll find her,” Aiden said, strumming his guitar.

“He really is good at that. He's better than most of the rock musicians I’ve ever heard.”

“Don't let him hear you say that. He doesn't need a bigger head than he already has.”

They both chuckled and held each other close.

“I do feel kinda bad for him and Cato. Since they haven't found their mates yet,” Aria said.

“I'm sure that they will find them soon,” Dax said. “Aiden’s dragon is giving him a lot of trouble these days. I've noticed he's been getting more irritable and full of himself all the time.”

“Is there any way to speed up the process?” Aria asked.

“Unfortunately, we still don't know how to identify our mates. We have to leave it up to fate to do it for us.”

“Fate brought us together,” Aria said. “And fate will find a mate for Aiden and Cato.”

“I hope it’s soon,” Dax said. “I don't know how much more of his crap I can take.”

“Don't worry about him. Just focus on me,” she said, wrapping her arms around his neck.

“I don't think that's going to be a problem.” He smiled and kissed her. To Aiden, he called, “We're taking your advice and getting a room.”

Dax lifted Aria out of the pool and carried her through the kitchen trailing water across the floor.

“Kian is not going to be happy about that,” she giggled.

“I don't care,” he said with a growl.

They made their way upstairs to his bedroom and he deposited her on the bed, staring down at her beautiful curvaceous body. He slipped her out of her wet swimsuit and her body lay damp and vulnerable before him. He growled and slipped out of his trunks.

“I cannot get enough of you,” he said.

He leaned between her legs and consumed her pussy, tasting her juices. He slipped his tongue between her slit, lapping up every morsel of her flavor. She gasped as he sank between her knees, slipping his long shaft along the wet folds. They kissed deeply and hungrily as the head of his cock slipped inside her. She gasped, still sore from the claiming.

“Do you want this?” he growled.

  “More than you'll ever know.”

He held her tight, holding her close as he parted her walls, pushing her open. The feel of her pussy clenching around him was like a velvety glove, tailor-made for his cock. He slipped deeper, growing ecstatic with pleasure.

“Oh Aria,” he growled. “You are my heaven.”

He slid deeper, holding her tiny body against him. He flipped her up on his lap, falling onto his back on the bed. She sat astride him, his cock deep inside her. She threw her head back and groaned. Her round breasts bounced as she moved herself up and down on his length. He gripped her hips and placed the pad of his thumb to her clit. She moved slowly back and forth on top of him.

“Oh my God,” she said, her light brown hair tumbling down her back.

She came ecstatically on his lap. Throwing her head forward, she growled at him. The light of her awakened Dragon Soul shined in her eyes.

She leaned forward and bit his neck with her flat teeth. He chuckled and growled, rubbing his hands up her back. He held her little body against him. Moving her up and down on his long cock. He could feel her pussy clenching his dick as he moved her. It felt so good, he couldn't hold back any longer. He came deep inside her with a hard thrust. She collapsed against his chest, panting and breathless.

He kissed her face, brushing her hair away from her cheek. She rested against him, her hot breath puffing into the crook of his neck.

“How can it feel better every time?” she whispered.

“Because with mates, that is the way it is.”

“If it keeps getting better, I might lose my mind.”

“I've already lost mine,” he said. “But who needs a mind when they have a heart and soul?”

He held her close, feeling the oneness of their mating all over again. He knew that with his little bird by his side, he would always be the warrior he was meant to be. Together, they would stand as a force of light against the darkness. Together, they would help save the world.
