A day later, Alan Richman received a phone call at his office.
“Hello, this is Alan Richman. How can I help you?”
“This is Mr. G, at the Maple Falls police station. I’m calling to let you know that Naomi Zhu has been placed under arrest.”
Al arrived at the police station less than ten minutes later. He was immediately led downstairs to see Naomi.
Al spotted Naomi’s familiar ebony head, gleaming like black satin as she paced back and forth across the dimly lit cell. As the door clanged shut behind them, Naomi looked up. Suddenly a radiant smile filled her olive face.
“Al!” Naomi called out jubilantly.
“Naomi!” Al called back with even more exuberance, racing towards her cell door. They desperately grasped hands through the bars, and then embraced fiercely, as if they had nothing between them at all.
Mr. G cleared his throat gruffly.
“Right then. I’ll be, er, right over there,” he said, gesturing vaguely in the direction of the door.
The moment that followed was one that would forever change the course of Al’s life. He reflected on it later, and wondered how such a short matter of seconds could alter so permanently every part of his existence. Like an unstoppable line of dominoes, the moment was the flick that set everything in motion.
A crowd of gymnasts skipped into the prison block, smiling big goofy grins of pure happiness. After a moment’s pause, they joined together and contorted their bodies into a pattern they’d made once before.
Under the dying light of a single electric bulb, in the dingy holding tank of a small town police station, Naomi got down on one knee.
“Alan Richman, will you marry me?”

About the Author
Jennifer Perry
In first grade, I wrote a book named "Little Wolf's Secret Admirer." It wasn't exactly a bestseller, (or even a seller at all), but I caught the writing bug and have been avidly creating stories ever since.
I'm a psycho runner, a speed reader, and a nerd to the extreme.
I'd love to hear any feedback you have about my work. Have an amazing life!
