An excerpt from Dr. Spriggan’s magazine article “Worship and Witchcraft.”
Faith is a strong tool that humanity has always used and depended on. True, faith has brought terrible things upon the world including wars, prejudice, and civil unrest, but we cannot deny the joyous things it has brought as well. Things such as peace of mind, inner contentment and unity.
Every faith that I am aware of has certain dogmas, traditions, and rites of passage. When two people of different faiths examine each others’ religion, they can see something strange or completely alien, even going as far as shunning conflicting practices. Perhaps the most shunned practices are dubbed “witchcraft” which is viewed as an abomination. Strange how one religion might consider water or wine becoming the very blood of their deity completely natural while the thought of looking towards the future through cards or a crystal ball is something blasphemous.
Some say the line between worship and witchcraft is set in stone, yet I see it as something malleable. Isn’t having unyielding faith in a being we have never seen just as strange as attempting to conjure spirits? Whether it’s worship or witchcraft, divine or mystical, there is one thing we cannot deny: There is a dreadful power in belief.
