  Chapter 15

“Jacqui, Jacqui, wake up.” I heard a blurry voice. I opened my eyes and saw Luke and Danny sitting on my bed next to me. Danny was holding the puppy. Somehow, I had drifted off to sleep earlier. “Jacqui, good news! Father said we can keep the puppy!” Danny said, looking very excited. “Really? That’s awesome!” I announced, sitting up straight. “You slept the whole day long!” Luke said. “It’s dinnertime already.” “Oh well, that explains why I’m so hungry,” I said, rubbing my stomach. “Well, come on! Mom, dad and Shane are waiting for us at the table.” Luke said, jumping off my bed and running out of my room. “Decided what the puppy’s name is already?” I asked Danny. “Yeah! We’ve decided to call him Charcoal – that is if you don’t have a problem with that.” Danny said. “Not at all! Charcoal’s a great name for the puppy.” I said. “Well good. Danny replied. “He already knows his name is Charcoal.” Danny said climbing off my bed and heading out of the room. “Charcoal. What a cute name, I explained to myself, climbing out of the bed and heading down the stairs. When I got to the table, I saw that there was something that looked like roast leg of lamb, baked potatoes, Caesar salad, and malva pudding. Yum. I sat down on a chair next to mom. “Hi Jacqui.” Shane said. “Nice nap?” “Yep. So I heard you all want to call the puppy Charcoal,” I said. “nice name.” “Dad, thank you so much that we can keep him,” “It’s a pleasure, Jacqui.” Dad said. After dinner I went to my room, slithered into my pajamas and climbed into bed. I clicked on the lamp, and picked up another Goosebumps book. I read a little and tried to go to sleep. No. Maybe I can’t sleep because I slept so much earlier. I decided to get out of bed and watch some TV. Then suddenly, I remembered something. Charcoal. I wonder where Danny put him when he rushed out of my room in time for dinner. Then I jumped out of bed and went to Danny’s room. I opened the door, and saw Danny was playing with action figures on the floor. “Danny, where’s Charcoal?” I asked, panicking a little bit. “Oh, sorry sis. I forgot to tell you. We made a bed for him in the living room while you were asleep.” “Oh. Thanks for telling me.” I said, feeling relieved. I jogged off the stairs and went to the living room. I saw Buster was running around and I saw Charcoal chasing him. “Aw! How cute! Charcoal! Buster! Come here!” I sat on the floor when Buster and Charcoal ran towards me. Buster came to a stop next to me, Charcoal jumped on top of me. “Come,” I said. I stood up, and sat down on the couch. Charcoal struggled to get up, ‘cause he was too small. I picked him up, and put him on my lap. Mom was still in the kitchen washing the dishes. “Mom!” I called, Can I please watch some TV?” “Yeah sure,” mom replied. “Just don’t stay up too late.” “Okay” I picked up the remote and clicked the TV on. News. News. News. News on every channel. I sighed. “What now?” Mom asked, coming into the living room. “There’s nothing on TV but news,” I replied. “Have you tried the movie channel?” Mom asked. “No,” I said. I clicked on the movie channel. It looked like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Mom went back into the kitchen. A few minutes later, she came back with a bowl of popcorn. “Thanks mom!” I called while she walked back up the stairs. “Good night, Jacqui.”

  Chapter 16

“I’m gonna miss this place.” I said to myself as I packed my last few Goosebumps books into my suitcase on top of all my clothes. I closed my suitcase and looked around the room. Looks like I’ve got everything. Dad came up to my room. “Jacqui, have you got everything?” he asked. “Yeah. I replied. “Okay.” Dad said. He walked up to my bed, and took my suitcase. “I’m just gonna put this in the car,” he said. “Okay” I replied. “Oh, can you please put Buster’s leash on, and get him in the car?” he asked. “Yep,” I said. “Oh, and Charcoal too.” “Okay.” He went out of my room and down the stairs. I took Buster’s leash, and called him. “Buster! Charcoal” I called. They came trotting into my room. “Come here, Buster.” Buster sat down beside me. I bent down and put his leash on. I picked Charcoal up, and held Buster’s leash in my hands. I went down the stairs with them, and outside the house. I saw everybody was in the car. Dad in front of the steering wheel, mom next to him. I closed and locked the door with the key that lay on the table. I climbed into the car with the two dogs. “Did you enjoy the vacation, kids?” YES thanks…. And so our visit to the farm came to an end.
