By the time night had fallen, a dozen white roses graced the dinner table in a crystal vase. Logan knew he should have been proud of finally succeeding at a spell, but his victory felt hollow somehow. He had a sneaking suspicion that Zared had helped, but there was no way to prove it.
Logan checked that the lamps were all full before he went to bed. They went through a lot of lamp oil, as Zared insisted that all of the rooms in the house be fully lit right through the night. Logan had no trouble sleeping in a brightly lit bedroom. He had known no other way and accepted it without question.
