Read Dragon's Fake Bride Page 10

  “Why not?”

He looked away into the distance, and his expression turned sad.

“I was raised to suppress all of my emotional needs, to be logical, rational, and hyper-focused on business. That was how my father was raised, and that’s how he raised me. My grandfather suddenly wanting me to find love and to be less of those things came as a severe shock. I had learned the lessons from my father and grandfather so well that I’d come to embody them. I knew of no other way to be.

“But you came into my life with your patience, kindness, and love. You unlocked the door to my heart. And now, it’s like I can feel again, perhaps even for the first time in my life. I don’t know if I should be terrified or thrilled. But what I do know is that I love you.”

A tear ran down her cheek. He took her hand and guided her back into the house. Turning music on the stereo by voice command, he swept her up into his arms, and they danced slowly to the rhythm.

Their bodies pressed together, her hand in his. She felt as if she’d finally found what she’d been searching for. He kissed her gently as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Soon, the kiss deepened and became more passionate, full of hunger.

“Come with me,” he said in a low rumble.

He led her to his bedroom. She had never seen the other side of the door. It opened on a neat and tidy modern bedroom suite with a sitting area and a king-sized bed with a gray leather headboard and matching comforter.

He stepped close to her and cupped her face and then ran his hands down her neck and shoulders, pulling her close to him in a tight embrace. He exhaled into her hair. “This isn’t as romantic as our wedding night could have been.”

“It’s much more romantic.” She gazed up into his eyes.

“I want us to be together like a husband and wife.”

“I want that too,” she whispered.

He picked her up and wrapped her legs around his waist, carrying her to the bed where he gently laid her across the soft blankets. Slowly, Spencer removed her clothes, leaving her in her sexy underwear.

He yanked off his shirt and revealed his chiseled chest and broad shoulders. He kissed her, flicking his tongue through her lips. The hunger she’d experienced on the plane came rushing back, and she knew that now she was ready to go all the way. He kissed her face and neck and slowly kissed his way down her body.

He slid between her legs, licking up the insides of her thighs, making goose bumps rise on her skin. She quivered and sucked a breath through her teeth as he slid his tongue up her slit. She groaned, still so surprised by the deep arousal he made her feel. He wagged his tongue on her clit, building her desire to a boiling point. She groaned, running her fingers through his hair.

He licked and sucked her, pressing his wet fingers through her entrance into her channel, hooking upward and stroking her g-spot. Her mind went blank as pleasure bombarded her senses. Infinite lust exploded from every cell, bouncing between the base of her spine and her brain. She groaned, pulling Spencer up to her by his shoulders.

“I need you inside me. I need to be yours.”

Not waiting a second longer, Spencer inched his pulsing shaft into her slick, hot core. He burst through her innocence and sank deeper. She gasped, clutching him in her arms. The feeling of his cock inside her was astonishing. She couldn’t think or feel anything other than the sensation of fullness.

  “S-Spencer…”

“Are you okay?” He kissed her forehead. “Was that too fast?”

“No, it’s good.” She kissed his chest. The pain of this new experience gripped her body and slowly subsided until all that was left was the deep, yearning pleasure. “I want more.”

“I’ve got much more for you.” He kissed her sweetly, tilting back his hips as he began to move in slow sensuous waves into her newly awakened body. He built up the pleasure inside her, taking her to the peak of the mountain until she could see right over the edge.

She gasped, and her mouth dropped open. Gritting her teeth, she came, groaning and mindless. The pleasure was so intense she could barely bear it. She couldn’t believe she was finally with a man, her man, her husband. Her Spencer. It had been so hard for them, for her, for the both of them.

At points, she’d thought it was hopeless. But now that he was rocking his hips inside her, holding her tight and giving her all his love, she knew that every moment was worth it. She came again and again, enveloped in his sweet love. He groaned, and his seed soaked her core.

She didn’t think even for a second about protection until the next morning when they woke, still holding each other on his rumpled sheets. He held her close, and she rested on his chest, slowly coming to awareness.

  “Last night, we didn’t…you know…”

“We didn’t what?” he asked, yawning.

  “We didn’t use protection.”

  “Do you mind?”

“I don’t mind if you don’t.” She thought about what it meant for him to do that. He wanted her, and he even wanted a child with her. That proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt.

“I’ve always wanted children with the man I love.”

“Then if we do conceive, it will be exactly what we both want.” He kissed her face. “I can finally admit that when I said my wedding vows, I meant every word. I want to love, honor, and cherish you until death parts us. But I don’t think that even death could part us. My soul is bound to yours. And I will proclaim it from the rooftops so that everyone can hear. In fact, I will do that right now.”

Spencer stood from the bed, giving her a wink, and walked out to the balcony completely nude.

  “What are you doing?”

“Just watch.” He opened the French doors. He stepped out, jumped into the sky, and shifted into a massive red dragon. Mina gasped, grabbing the sheet from the bed and rushing outside. She watched Spencer shoot up into the sky, swirling around, flying fast across the Los Angeles skyline.

Then he did something she would never forget: blowing fire as he flew, the steam from his breath wrote white puffy words across the blue sky.

  “Spencer + Mina=Forever.”

She covered her mouth, laughing and crying at once. She watched her beloved dragon fly, proclaiming his love from the rooftops, finally showing his beautiful, big heart to the world.

  Chapter 17

  Six months later

Spencer watched Mina pull her hardcover book out of the shipping box on the table. She turned it around and showed him the cover of a man who looked disturbingly like him. He chuckled and applauded as she began to unpack the books. He reached out to her, and she walked around the table to him.

He drew her into his lap, kissed her glowing cheek, and affectionately rubbed her rounding belly. Since the day Spencer had declared his love for Mina, he had not reverted to the distant and disconnected man he had been before. Sure, he had moments where his old habits came back to him, but Mina forgave him, and they somehow made it work.

She was an angel and the light of his life. He tried to show her how much he adored her every day, even when he stayed at the office late or didn’t come home at all. She was always there for him with open arms the next day, smiling and happy to see him.

She had since written three more novels, and the publishing company was just as thrilled with those as they were with her first one. He was so proud of his sweet, romantic mate, and he could understand exactly why her books sold so well. If she could open his heart, she could open anyone’s.

“It’s going into a second printing,” she said. “Already. I can’t believe it. There was a while where I thought it would never happen. None of the agents would touch my books with a ten-foot pole. But as soon as I started to write about you, it all turned around.”

“Why do you think that is?” He kissed her shoulder.

“I’ve always believed in love, but I’d never experienced it until I met you. Even when you kept me at arm’s length, I still felt it waiting for me. I just had to find a way to get inside your heart.”

“And you did. I’m not the man I used to be. Everyone sees it.”

  “Do you regret it?”

“Not for a second. Not only am I a thousand times happier, but my business is booming. I thought that having a woman in my heart would distract me, but it’s done just the opposite. With you in my life and the baby on the way, my decisions are better, my focus is clear, and I know why I do it all. It’s for you.

“I used to do it for myself and for my legacy. But now, I work so that I know you will always be taken care of, so that I can see your eyes shine when I tell you about my latest accomplishment. That is the biggest driving force in my life now.”

“You’re just saying that,” she teased, cupping his cheeks in her hands.

“Nope. I’m not the kind of man who just says anything. I mean every word I say. I always have, and I always will. But now that I have you in my life, I believe different things, better, more important things. You’ve made me the person I was meant to be before work and worry trained me to be something else. You stripped away all those layers and revealed my true heart. It’s worth more than all the gold and diamonds in the world.”

“You know what, Spencer? I think you really are a romantic.”

“With you, Mina, my love, I just might be.”
