“That little bitch!” fumed President Klens, referring to Dana. “How dare she challenge me!”

“There is a growing sentiment among the people these days. The young ones especially feel that they should have the right to choose their own careers,” said Williams.

“Preposterous,” said President Klens. “If we let them do that, then that would mean anyone could be part of the council. Or worse. They’re just people. People who need to be controlled.”

The door to her chamber opened as Officer Fernau and Seth Michaels walked in.

“You wished to see me,” said Seth Michaels.

“Yes,” replied President Klens. “What is going on here? You are in charge of maintaining order in the eastern region, and yet that wretch had the gall to challenge me. Challenge me! Do you not know what is going on here?”

“Madam president, I am all too aware.”

“And the resistance. It grows each day. It has even spread to the western region. To my home!”

“It will be dealt with,” said Seth Michaels.

“We can take care of her.”

“No,” said President Klens, “I don’t wish to make her into a martyr.”

“She won’t be,” replied Seth Michaels. “Officer Fernau has a better idea, and it may even result in the end of the resistance movement.”

  “I’m listening,” said President Klens.

“She will lead us to the resistance. And when she does, we will eliminate them and her.”

President Klens listened intently, liking what she heard. “Do it.”
