Jensen stepped through the portal and exhaled. Time travel always made him hold his breath. I’m going to miss that, he thought.

As planned, he had arrived behind the dumpster on the east side of the high school. The odor of two day old mystery meat crawled from the trash cans.

Jensen poked his head around the corner of the dumpster and checked to make sure no one was watching. The only people in sight were two cheerleaders; their attention firmly focused on hanging up a “Goodbye Billy” banner across a breezeway. The large clock behind them read 3:04. He didn’t have much time.

Reaching into his robe, he removed a small metallic object. He checked to make sure that the device was operating as it should. Taking one more look around, he ran from the dumpster and across the school parking lot as fast as his old legs would carry him. Reaching the car, he knelt beside the passenger rear tire and attached the device. The powerful magnet held it firmly in place inside the rear fender.

Jensen again made sure no one was watching and then hurried back across the parking lot. He reached the dumpster and took one final look at Brady Arnold’s 1969 Ford Mustang. The Grokulans would have no trouble finding the boy now. The homing device would make sure of that.

He stepped back into the portal just as the final school bell broke into song. He held his breath and the blackness closed around him.
