Phillip had to go to the church and rehearse for a play so; once again, we were at church. While he hurried to the youth room, I looked around to see who else was waiting at the church.
“Hi Missy.”
It was Mrs. Templet. She is such a sweet woman, but her voice is so high pitched and squeaky. It is very hard to focus on what she is saying and not get irritated.
“How are your parents? I heard they are out of town.”
I’m not sure what she already knows, but this sounds like an attempt to fish for information. I’m not even going to entertain the curiosity.
“They were good when we spoke last night. My guess is they are on their way home.” I watched her to see how she responded to my bland answer and to check my assumption.
“Oh…well, that’s good. It must be a long journey for them to have to leave so early in the morning. I will have to pray it be a safe one. Anything can happen on the road these days. Or in a plane, train, or boat too for that matter.” She was watching me for a clue to which applied to them.
It is kind of funny how nosey people are about other people’s lives. My parents are not here. That should be enough.
“Yeah, you will see them tomorrow at church. I will agree in prayer with you for their safe return. Thank you for your concern Mrs. Templet. If you will excuse me, I have something I must take care of now. Thank you, again.”
In truth, I am going nowhere fast, but I need to make a break from this obvious attempt at information. Mrs. Templet is known for prying into everyone’s affairs. She likes to know everything. Then, she’ll call up other nosey members and they talk about what all they have discovered. I guess they are so old they have nothing else better to do with their time.
Sometimes, I wonder if I will be like that when I get old. I sure hope not. I headed for the bathroom.
Just as I reached the door, I saw Amber.
“Hey!” We both greeted each other. “Are you here for practice?” I asked her.
“Yeah, I decided to try my hand at acting. It gives me something to do.” She responded.
She had on a banana yellow fitted t-shirt and rugged boot cut jeans. Her hair was up in a ponytail this time.
“Well, my brother seems to enjoy it.” I added.
She smiled at the reference. Oh no, she likes him too. Another poor lost soul hopelessly in “like” with my brother.
“Yeah, he gets all into it. It’s cute.” She replied blushing.
Whatever…I can see this conversation is over. I don’t even want to know or answer any questions about him.
“Well, I’ll let you get back. I have to go to the little girl’s room.” And with that, I left.
After I left out the bathroom, I thought it best to sit in my car until Phillip finished practice. I really don’t want to entertain any more conversations. I’ll save that for Sunday. There are plenty of other things I can be thinking about; like that weird dream I had last night. I can’t wait to talk to dad about that.
