  By the end of the day, there had been no further developments. There'd been no response from The Sandman anywhere. DiCicco and Harris had checked in as they turned surveillance of the professor over to Chin and McTavish. "The highlight of the day was learning that the guy takes his coffee with just cream," Harris had said, having sidled up beside the professor at one of the coffee counters in the Student Community building.

  "All right, I'm knocking off for the day. What about you?" Wallace said as he got up from his chair and slipped on his coat, Bartolucci's phone safely tucked in his pocket.

  "Yeah, I'm heading out too. Shauna's invited me over for dinner tonight."

  "Ooh, a private dinner," Wallace teased, then stopped. "While you're getting all romantic don't forget your old buddy, you know how much I like leftov-"

  "Don't even start," Pepper replied, cutting Wallace short as they walked out of the squad room.
