fighting those things and worse daily.”
“Yes, Rowen. Despite everything that happened I still feel that the Vanguard is my calling,” she replied. “If I hadn't been there, who knows how many more could have died? As a future cleric I know that my healing is always needed, and I want to be where it is needed most. Plus, as I always tell you, I'm not afraid of dying, especially if it’s in service to the goddess. What about you? Have you decided where you want to go?”
“At first I didn’t think I wanted to go anywhere anymore,” Rowen said. “I was so scared when Loren died and it all seemed so futile. I didn’t want to go through that again. I thought I might go off to college and study magic. It’s a little backup plan I’ve always had. However, I’ve come to the same conclusion. I was able to help, and I might be able to help later. Just think about what could have happened if we hadn’t been there. Yesterday showed me how deadly the demons are and how they need to be killed. I’m going to join my brother and you in Althera’s Vanguard.”
“That’s great!” Cecilia said. “The next recruiter should be here in a couple of days. We’ll go together. Now, what do you say we head home now? I think we’ve put it off long enough.”
Rowen nodded and they parted. It felt good to have direction in his life, and for the first time in many months he walked with determined steps.
