“Are you sure you girls will be okay without us, girls?”
My mom hands my dad a big bag to put in the back. He struggles with it and I almost want to help him. Almost.
“We’ll be fine,” I say. “Have a great trip.”
My mom sighs loudly and looks back at my dad, who places his hands on his hips to breathe from packing everything into the back. What could she possibly have in her bags? They’re just going for two weeks…
“Well alright. Call us if anything happens. And you know both neighbor’s numbers and to call nine-one-one if—”
“Yes mom. I’ve got everything I need in here,” I say as I wave my phone. “Don’t worry.”
“Okay,” She says. “Okay. I’ll call you every night. Okay?”
They get in the car and Hannah walks up to the open passenger window to talk to mom.
“Can I stay over at Stacy’s? Joanne will be there, and so will Myra.”
“Sure, honey. Work it out with your sister.”
I groan.
“Bye love y’all!” My dad calls with my mom echoing him. “See you in two weeks!”
I mutter a ‘love you,’ and turn to go back inside.
“Okay,” Hannah says, jumping through the doorway and cutting me off. “So I have to be there by eight and we’ll be there until twelve tomorrow because that’s when Joanne leaves for her vacation.”
That gives you time to throw a party…
“You don’t want to go any earlier?” I ask, getting excited about the party I’m going to throw. It’s going to be legendary.
“Really? You—you’d do that?” She asks.
“Yeah, just be ready by six. That’s when we’re going to leave.”
