something?” Ruby stepped in the house and went to the living room. “Oh my goodness! What happened in here! Mary, where are you!” She looked at the painting. The parents were lying on the ground and the children were looking right at Ruby with a smile on their face. “Woah what?” She saw the children coming out of the painting. She screamed as she ran up the stairs to find Mary’s door locked. “Mary? Mary! It’s me, Ruby! Please let me in! You would never believe what I saw!” Mary quickly swung open the door and pulled Ruby inside, then locked the door again.

“You saw my mom?” Mary’s face was in tears. “What else did you see?” Her voice began cracking and she coughed.

“After I saw your mom, I saw the picture was different! And then the children were coming out to get me!” There was pounding at the door. “We have to escape from your window! Pack your things we are getting out of here!”

“But what about my mom? I can’t call the police I have no phone! And I don’t have anything to escape with!” Mary exclaimed and more tears fell.

“I have a phone! Let’s call the police!” Ruby began dialing, the pounding on the door grew louder. Both of them heard evil laughter. Ruby signaled Mary to keep quiet. She nodded and held her hands over her mouth, her tears dried out. Ruby ran to the bathroom and shut the door so she could talk properly to the police.

Mary looked at the door. ‘I can’t hear her at all, so I guess those children can’t either.’ She thought as she looked at the door. Ruby quietly opened the bathroom door and shut it.

“Are you okay? They are arriving in five minutes.” Ruby whispered. They both sat on the bed and endured the pounding and laughter on the door.

“Thank you, Ruby. I don’t know what I could do without you.” Suddenly the pounding stopped. Then a knife stabbed through the door making Mary jump up. Ruby heard sirens and quickly looked out of the window. She opened it.

“Here! She screamed lightly. “Please help us!” The police looked up. Then took a rope from the car and swung it up to where Ruby and Mary was so they could climb down while other police were running into the house from the front door.

“They children are still hitting the door!” Mary yelled as she and Ruby hit ground outside where the police were. They were relieved.

The police were inside the house and they saw Mary’s mother, three of them carried her out of the house while the rest went upstairs and saw the two children still stabbing on the door. The police took out their guns and shot them twice in the head and the heart.

They heard laughter…then the children fell.

  The Haunted Doll

“Clare are you ready yet? We’ve got to go!”

Ten-year-old Clare quickly washed her hands and raced down the stairs to find her mother already putting on her shoes.

“So what kind of present does Melody want for her birthday?” Clare’s mother asked as she held the door open for her.

“Melody likes pretty things.” Clare said and thought. “Sparkly and shiny.”

“How about some jewelry? I’m sure she would like something she could wear all the time.” Clare’s mother said with a huge smile on her face. She liked jewelry, she wears them all the time and it was definitely something she liked to talk about. “I know just to place to get Melody’s present!”

Clare was very excited to get the gift; she always fantasized about her giving the best ones to her friends. “Mommy is it okay if I give her a necklace?” Clare said as if her idea was perfect.

“Great idea! But don’t pick out an expensive one okay, darling?” Her mother said. “We’re here.”

Clare rushed inside and saw many shelves and other furniture. She ran around trying to look for necklaces. “Hmm…let’s see…rings…bracelets…necklaces!” Clare yelled and began to choose which color fit her friend.

Clare’s mother rushed over to her. “Clare darling, please don’t leave me like that again alright? You were lucky that I heard you.” Her mother said while breathing heavily. Slowly, her eyes lay on a red butterfly, necklace, it was beautiful. “How about this one? I’m sure Melody likes red hmm?”

“Okay!” Clare picked up the necklace, she turned to walk to the counter with her mother but then something caught her eye. “Mommy! Look at this!” Clare rushed towards a shelf filled with beautiful dolls.

“Clare dear, we already got a present for Melody.” Her mother said while looking at the dolls then back to Clare.

“Mommy can I have one doll so I can play with it?” Clare picked up one doll and showed it to her mother. It had green hair, golden eyes and wore a flimsy dress.

“But you already have many toys you can play with.” She looked at Clare in surprise to see her already walking up to the counter with a doll. “Oh alright then.” Her mother grunted and followed to the counter.

There was an old woman at the counter. She looked at Clare, then her mother, and then smiled. “In total would be fifty four dollars and twenty five cents.” She said as she took out a plastic bag to put the doll in and a small box for the necklace so it would not break.

Clare’s mother took out sixty dollars from her wallet. The old woman took it and gave her the change. Clare took the plastic bag and they left the store.

Clare took the doll out of the plastic bag and looked at it. “It’s so pretty! I’m going to play and sleep with it! Her name is Kaya.” She said while hugging it.

“Be careful not to drop it, it will get dirty.” Clare’s mother said while taking the plastic bag from her daughter.

“I won’t drop Kaya. She is my best friend!” Clare stared into the dolls eyes. It just looked back at her. Somehow it felt like it was hiding a smile.

At home, Clare placed her doll on her bed. “Look Kaya! This is my house. It’s big so you can go anywhere you want! Just don’t get lost okay?” Clare pretended that the doll was alive and gave her rules while she was away. After that she went to take a shower, she didn’t take long before she came out and saw that the doll was looking upwards at her.

‘I was sure that Kaya was looking down…how did she…?’ Clare thought as she picked up the doll and gave it a hug.

“Clare, it’s time for dinner!” Her mother yelled from downstairs.

“I’m coming!” Said Clare and went downstairs while holding the doll by the arm. “Kaya, you can sit next to me.” She put her doll on the chair next to hers. Her mother just laughed and started eating the food. Clare put some food on her plate and the doll’s.

“Kaya is just a doll, she doesn’t eat. You should eat for yourself.” Her mother said while looking at the mashed potatoes that is on the doll’s plate. Clare just smiled and started eating her own food.

After several minutes, Clare’s mother stood up and took her plate to the kitchen. “Don’t forget to bring your plate once you’re done!” She said from the kitchen.

“Okay!” Clare said and looked at the doll’s plate. Half of the mashed potatoes were gone. ‘What the…did I eat that or did…no it’s just my imagination! I didn't put that much on Kaya’s plate did I?’ Her mother walked out of the kitchen. “Mom, did you eat the mashed potatoes on Kaya’s plate?”

“I wouldn’t dream of it! What’s wrong?” Her mother said and looked at the doll’s plate.

“No it’s nothing…” Clare yawned and picked up the rest of the plates that were on the table. She went to the kitchen and put them in the sink. “I’m going upstairs to sleep now. Good night.”

“Good night, Clare.” Her mother said and went back to the kitchen to wash the dishes.

Clare put on her pajamas and climbed into bed. She cuddled the doll close to her. It was very dark in the room so she couldn’t see Kaya’s smile. Clare felt a pair of hands hugging her; she quickly turned on the lights. The doll was hugging her. Its eyes flashed. Clare screamed as she threw the doll into a cupboard and put a desk in front of it so it couldn’t get out. The door swung open.

“Clare darling! What’s the matter? Are you alright?” Clare’s mo
ther was rushing over to her daughter holding her close.

“The doll! It moved! It was hugging me! It’s alive! Kaya is a living doll!” Clare said quickly and made her mother laugh, which made Clare mad. “What’s so funny? It so scary!”

“Look darling it was just a nightmare alright?” Clare’s mother said as she removed the desk and took the doll out. She held it to her.

Clare saw the doll smiling devilishly as she screamed. “No! Wait mommy!” Clare was so scared that she couldn't even look at the doll anymore. “Can I give Kaya to Melody and I keep the necklace?”

Clare’s mother looked shocked. “What? Are you sure?” She looked at her daughter and then to the doll that was not smiling anymore. “You must make up your mind, tomorrow is Melody’s birthday.”

Clare took a deep breath and grabbed the doll. She put it into a box and started wrapping it. “I’m sure, Melody would love it. I don’t think she would like the necklace that much, she’s only seven years old.” Clare said and completed the wrapping. “Can I sleep somewhere else?”

“Clare, it’s just a doll.” Her mother said and went out the room. Clare sighed. She went under the blanket and fell asleep.

The next morning, Clare woke up not feeling very excited. She thought about the incident that happened last night, she shook her head trying to forget.

“Clare! Hurry down for breakfast, remember its Melody’s birthday today!” Her mother yelled as she put a plate of baked beans and
