Read For the Pride of a Crow Page 12

“Too late. I’ve already been living in the east wing for a week.”

“You have?” Leah called after him. “Wait, aren’t you going to take your Blackwood Clan T-shirt I made?”

“Does it have glitter on it?” came the echoing reply.

Leah pursed her lips and rubbed her fingertips across the top of the trio of neatly folded black T-shirts with the Clan lettering outlined in green glitter pen. “Just a little bit.”

“Then no!” came Kade’s muffled answer, followed by the slamming of a bedroom door.

Ethan tried to cover his laughter with a cough, but Leah tossed him a severe look. Well, as severe as she could. Werewolf or no, his lady was still sweet as a kitten. She’d kept her happy despite the monster dwelling inside of her. That part hadn’t surprised him at all during her transition. Tough mate.

“I spent six hours making these and, furthermore, did you know he was living here?”

“Nope. But are you really that surprised? He’s the best stalker and hunter I’ve ever met. He followed me for years, and I had no idea. That wolf can be a ghost if he wants.”

“Don’t say ghost. I’ve had enough of those for one lifetime.” She narrowed her eyes at where Kade had disappeared. “He’s going to claw up so much furniture.”

  “Yep.”

  “And the walls.”

  “Mmm hmm.”

“Has he just been coming in through a window?”

Ethan chuckled and made his way around the counter, pinned her against the island, and kissed the pout from her lips.

Her worry faded away like morning fog. She cupped his face and smiled up at him, her wolfish silver eyes dancing with adoration. She was the sun. That was the best way to describe her. His life before her had been one long night. And then she’d stumbled into his life, clumsily of course, and flipped everything upside down in the best ways.

She’d given him a reason to kill the ghost of his past.

She’d given him his confidence back, his pride back.

She’d loved him so unconditionally he’d had no choice but to learn to love himself, too.

Leah was the reason there was an entire room in this house filled with his colorful paintings.

This woman was amazing. Her lightness and pure joy for life were the perfect contrasts to the dark hole he’d been living in. She’d been brave enough to pull him out.

This woman smiling up at him like he hung the moon—he was going to take care of her. She’d promised to keep him good, and in return, he was going to give her the world. Or as much of it as a simple man could give.

Her wolf needed a Clan to keep steady, so okay. He would be Alpha to a couple of werewolves. The Blackwood Clan had been born.

Ethan’s life hadn’t ended up where he’d thought it would.

Because of her, it had ended up somewhere so much better.
