Read Guest Room Page 2

  INT. HALLWAY-EVENING

  JOHN

  (On phone)

Yeah…..No, I didn’t tell her…she found out by herself……yeah, she said that she saw a dark puddle in the hallway of the guest room….Yeah….I don’t know what we are going to do……This only means one thing….Nina’s back.

John hangs up. Jordyn then slams his door open. John’s heart jumps.

  INT. JOHN’S BEDROOM.-EVENING

  JORDYN

  Who’s Nina?

  JOHN

So you’re a high school drop out, and you ease drop? My god can’t wait to tell my parents that!

  JORDYN

  What are you hiding?

  JOHN

Listen, just go away and do your job. This is none of your business.

  JORDYN

How did the dishes get back dirty? I did them earlier and now they are dirty. What is going on? This house is haunted isn’t it?

  JOHN

  No, you’re wrong.

  JORDYN

  You’re a liar. You can’t hide.

  JOHN

  (sighs)

Fine. But fyi, you’re going to have to sit down for this.

Jordyn looks around suspiciously and takes a seat on the very edge of John’s bed. John clears his throat.

  JOHN

Nina was our old maid. She cooked, cleaned, and even walked the dogs. She worked for us for only a few years. After that, my dad was laid off so we went bankrupt. We had no money to pay her for everything she had done. She later threatened to sue, and we had no lawyer to fight back. She died after that.

  JORDYN

Let me guess, she died in here, in the guest room?

  John swallows hard.

  JOHN

No, umm, she was really stressed out and she had cancer. When we couldn’t pay her anymore, we let her stay in the guest room to pay her back for her hard work since she had no home. However, that wasn’t enough. She threatened us again about suing and my parents had no idea what to do. They found her dead in the back yard. She dropped dead of a heart attack.

  JORDYN

Whoa, I am getting out of here! No, better yet let’s call the cops!

Jordyn pulls out her iphone and starts dialing. Ralph emerges into John’s doorway.

  RALPH

  What’s going on in here?

Ralph looks really pale and he looks like he saw a ghost. Jordyn looks directly into Ralph’s eyes.

  JORDYN

I don’t know what kind of tricks you think you’re pulling, but times up.

  RALPH

Ok, let’s go to the kitchen.

  INT. KITCHEN-NIGHT

  RALPH

You want the truth? Fine. Here it is.

We couldn’t pay Nina for all the hard work she has done for us. So, we let her stay in the guest room. Apparently, that wasn’t enough. She threatened to sue, and we had no lawyer to fight back. So, we had to kill her. She died in the guest room.

  JORDYN

Whoa, I can’t believe this. So, how do you explain the dishes getting dirty and the noises?

  RALPH

It was Nina. She’s back. Her ghost is here to haunt us since we could not pay her.

  JORDYN

How much do you guys owe her?

  RALPH

  (Thinks for a second)

  $4,500

  JORDYN

I see why she is upset.

  RALPH

Oh, she’s not upset. She’s pissed.

  JORDYN

Well, looks like my job is done. Holla.

Jordyn throws up a peace sign and starts walking towards the door.

BAM! A china plate is thrown at the wall in front of Jordyn.

  JORDYN

  Oh my god!

  JOHN

  It’s her!

  JORDYN

  What can we do?

  RALPH

  Nina, what do you want!

  NINA (GHOST)

  Revenge! Revenge!

  RALPH

We’ll give you money! I got a new job a few months ago! I’ll give you money.

  NINA (GHOST)

I don’t want money anymore! I want you!

Mrs. Hopkins comes running down the stairs to see the terrifying situation.

  NINA (GHOST)

  I want you both!

Nina then throws more and more plates and cups at the couple. The china is breaking against the wall. John gets out a match, lights it, and throws it directly at Nina. Her ghost fights with the fire and it sends her “melting” into a big lake of dark water.

  RALPH

  Finally, she’s gone.

  MRS. HOPKINS

Thank god! I am so sorry Jordyn. I am sorry we were not telling you the truth. We just didn’t want to scare you away. We really needed help around the house and we didn’t want to let a ghost stop that.

  JORDYN

I understand but I just can’t work for you two. I am terrified and I am realizing that things happen for a reason. Maybe this is a sign I should got back to school, finish and go to college. Maybe my life has meaning.

Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins shoot Jordyn a surprised look.

  MRS. HOPKINS

  You’re a drop out?

  JORDYN

Yes, the only reason I didn’t tell you guys is because I though you would think less of me. I work hard, just not in school.

  RALPH

Well, I guess we have all learned a lesson. I will make sure to never hire someone I cannot pay.

  JORDYN

And I will make sure I will go back to school, finish, and go to college.

  MRS. HOPKINS

  There you go kiddo.

  She smiles are Jordyn.

Ralph puts out his wallet and hands Jordyn a $100 dollar bill.

  JORDYN

  (Chuckles)

I can’t take this. I didn’t even walk the dogs.

  RALPH

That’s for all the hell we put you threw.

Jordyn folds up the money and stuffs it in the back pocket.

  JORDYN

Thank you very much. Well it was nice doing business with you both. Thank you!

Jordyn shakes Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins hand. Jordyn hugs John goodbye.

  JOHN

  (Whispers)

Maybe we can work something out

  JORDYN

  (Whispers)

  I hope so

Jordyn waves bye and starts walking back home.

Ralph turns back to the kitchen floor to see that the lake of dark water is gone.

  CUT TO:

Nina walks into the guest room. She turns around to look at the audience, and then the door slams shut.
