  “She isn’t answering,” Alexia said as she hung up the portable phone.

  “Does she usually answer?”

  “Always. She has four, three kids,” Alexia corrected herself. She didn’t know whether she should say she was still Cynthia’s daughter. “She always answers.”

  “Is there anybody else you can call?”

  “Robert, the man who I thought was my father.” Alexia was relieved to find out he wasn’t her real father.

  “Okay, do it.”

  “All right,” Alexia said as she reluctantly dialed Robert’s number.

  A shrill ringing sounded out in the house making everybody jump. Two nervous pairs of eyes stared at the phone. Somebody tall walked over to the phone and lifted it to their mouth. Not caring about who was on the other end of the phone, they opened their mouth and let out a deathly shriek.
