Hope’s eyes slid to the red haired girl standing in front of her tears running down her face. Hope realized it was Bree.
“What happened?” She yelled. Bree just shook her head, crying. Hope ran, leaving Lexa and everyone else behind her. She ran passed Bree until she came on the rest of the camp, It was in flames in places. She scanned each of the people laying on the ground, but there was only one she was looking for.
Hope raised her gaze until she could see the pond behind the tents. She ran as fast as she could to the one lone body lying in the sand. She stopped before getting there, hoping it was a lie, hoping this wasn’t who she thought it was. She crept closer, holding tears back until she recognized his face, he reached up for her and she fell to her knees beside him.
“You’re going to be okay,” she managed through her tears.
He smiled at her and wiped a tear away with his thumb. “It’s okay. We all knew it would end this way.”
“No, that’s not true.” Hope said taking his hand.
“It is. You never saw me in any of your visions. I know,” Roan tried to breathe, but he couldn’t get a breath. He was covered in ashes and burned skin. Hope knew he wasn’t going to survive, but she didn’t want to admit it to herself. She loved him. “I’ll see you again.”
“No, I don’t want you to go,” Hope said through her tears.
“You know it doesn’t work that way.” He smiled. “I love you.”
Hope watched as the life left his eyes and his grip loosened.
“I love you too.”
