Read I'm Thankful For... Page 4

the bustling city of Cairo, Egypt. After nearly a year of writing to each of them, Chloe could truly count them among her friends.

She was very grateful for the relationships she had with both Jean-Luc and Nenet. They had proven themselves to be true friends. They never stopped writing back to Chloe, and they had both sent her special expressions of sympathy when her grandfather had passed away that spring. They were happy for her when good things happened in her life, and they often had good advice to share with her. Chloe tried very hard to be every bit as loyal a friend to both of them.

But not only was Chloe very thankful for the opportunity to have two amazing friends that she could write to, text, and email; she was also thankful for the fact that Jean-Luc and Nenet came from cultures that were very different from Chloe’s own. Because of them, Chloe had learned a lot about what it would be like to grow up in France or Egypt. Because of them, Chloe had learned a lot about the world outside of her own country!

Best of all, the thankfulness Chloe felt for these things was something that could be shared and appreciated by everybody in her class!

The last paragraph of her Thanksgiving report read:

If we all took just a little more time to learn about other countries and cultures, we would realize just what a fascinating world we truly are part of! I’m very proud to be an American, and I’m even prouder to live in this wonderful world!

  Just for Fun Activity

What country do you live in? Ask an adult to help you print out a large coloring sheet of your country (these are easy to find online).

Then, using different colored markers or colored pencils, fill the large picture of your country with a list or pictures of all the different things you are thankful for about living there. You can even cut pictures out of catalogs and magazines, if you want!

Outline your country with bright markers, cut out the shape, and glue it to a festive construction-paper background. Then hang it on your fridge, where everyone can see how much you love your country!
