opened her mouth to sob, but the sound escaped only as a sickly whimper. Somehow with each strike, the blows were becoming harder to feel. It was difficult for her to register the sensation as pain. She felt as though she were fading. Fading away.
Love. Beauty. Not the words, but the sheer essence of those things filled her and surrounded her.
You are my beautiful beloved and your drawings are pleasing to me, your forever Father.
Hanna twisted her hands, her palms facing skywards and raised them up, her body felt light and her mind, too. She smiled a thin smile.
F-You, she thought, as she began to slip into comforting blackness.
She could no longer see, but heard faintly, far off in the distance, the sound of her mother screaming hysterically.
“Oh, no, oh no, you didn’t…”
Thank you Mama, for coming to get me. But I’m okay now. I love you. Hanna saw a brilliant white light and felt its warmth envelop her like a welcoming embrace. She stretched out her arms and floated toward it.
