  Chapter 4

The next couple of days went by in a blur. Seeing Scott at rehearsal wasn’t as humiliating as I thought it would be. In fact, it was actually awesome because he asked me out for Saturday. He had told me that the embarrassing mishap (the one I wanted to forget even happened) was pretty adorable, and he wanted to get to know me better. I thought that was pretty adorable. And so I accepted. With the new “Date-like-a-Man” plan, I wasn’t worried about getting myself into something serious with a non-member. It would just be for fun.

I had the day off and decided it was going to be a Jane Austen veg day. I was happily content watching my second four hour long movie of the day, cuddled up in a blanket wearing my favorite comfy pants. I was lazily snacking on all of my favorite finger foods when my phone buzzed.

  I groaned.

I didn’t like being bothered on my Jane Austen veg days, and I didn’t recognize the number, so I let it go to voicemail. The phone buzzed again alerting me that there was a new voicemail. I pushed pause on my movie and listened to it just in case it was an emergency.

  It wasn’t.

  It was Damon.

Awesome. Just awesome. Not the person I wanted to deal with right now. But his message said he had some time tonight to start the planning process for the YSA Conference, and I knew we needed to get started on it if we were going to do a good job with it.

I rolled my eyes and sighed as I pressed his number to call him back. I could be mature about this. I didn’t need to bring my animosity for him to the table. I could be diplomatic and business like; I just needed to take the emotion out of the equation. I wanted the Conference to be amazing, so I would need to do just that.

He picked up on the first ring.

  “Kylie?”

  “Yeah, it’s me.”

“Great. So obviously you got my message. Does tonight work for you?”

He was all business, which was fine; but I still thought it was a bit rude of him not to ask how I was doing or anything before diving right into the point of the phone call.

“Sure. When and where?” I was trying to keep the disdain out of my voice as much as possible.

“How about my place at 8:00 pm?”

  “Ok, what’s the address?”

He gave me the address. It wasn’t too far away… also on the Upper West Side.

We hung up after saying our good-byes, and I went back to watching my movie. I had a few hours before I needed to leave and intended to use every bit of it drooling over Johnny Lee Miller as the respectably dashing Mr. Knightly.
