Read Life Lessons from the Light Page 6

is just a place for your soul to live right now. Heal the spirit first. That is your priority.”

Some listened and understood. Others just hung their heads and walked away.

But that night Tom gave a beautiful speech about the power of the soul and how each person needed to get in touch with it.

“Breathe in life,” he said. “It is a gift. Breathe in love. That is a greater gift. Breathe in all the blessings that have been given you here on earth at this time. Be grateful for all you have.”

Tom stayed in the village for several years, while his spirit gained strength. He learned to share his spiritual values with all who would listen. Sometimes he would pray with them, if they requested it. Other times he would just sit and listen to their sad stories and offer his empathy. One day he met a sweet, young girl, being raised in the mountains not far from Tom’s old homestead. She had a story to tell him about a life of abuse, and Tom helped her get through it. Her name was Miranda. And she had the gift of healing.

She told him how she loved to pick flowers in the meadow and be out in the sunshine. And sometimes, when she was all alone staring at the bright sky, she felt electric purple going right up her arms.

She said she had wondered a little about that, but it didn’t bother her since she often saw or felt things that others didn’t. She knew she had the gift of healing. Several times she had revived dead birds and chipmunks that had fallen from the trees and been hurt by cats. She held them gently in her hand and the electric purple went straight through them. In seconds they were alive and well again.

Miranda had not shared her secret with anyone, for she was a shy girl and didn’t want attention.

But one day, as she was in the village getting food for her family, a man fell down on the road in front of her, collapsed from a heart attack. She ran to him and held her hand over his heart. The energy zapped him back to life. He got up, shook himself off in a daze, stared at the girl and walked quickly home.

That was the beginning. When people found out that Miranda was a healer, they began to bring their sick to her.

“Just your touch can heal, I know it can,” said one mother who brought her sick child. “Please, Miranda, heal my son.”

Miranda held the child in her arms and the electric purple went through him. He was whole. But sometimes it did not work, and she always warned people that this power was not in her control.

“I am just an instrument,” she said. “God’s will be done.”

Miranda told Tom about her healing power and wanted to know why some were healed and others were not. It was so confusing. He told her what he knew.

“The healing must be of the soul,” he told her. “If the body gets healed too, then so be it. But the soul is our connection to God and it must come first. Only then can we know that His will is being done.”

He led her to a stream where the cool waters flowed over the stones. She put her hands in the flow and felt the energy, recognizing it.

“The power of healing is not mine,” she said. “Let God decide.”
