Dear Diary
Today started off as a good day. I didn’t have any classes with either Mark or Shelly and apparently Shelly was taking part in a play and practicing during lunch. It felt great to sit in the cafeteria and not wonder what gossip she was spewing about me.
My sandwich never tasted better and I could actually relax and enjoy myself. Yes, it sucked being lonely and having no one sitting with me, but I’ve grown accustomed to this situation I guess.
School was over and I was walking out feeling glad about the marvelous day I was having. I looked up and saw it was getting really cloudy. When the first raindrop fell on my face, I actually giggled. I was that happy.
Then my euphoric feeling came to an abrupt end. Shelly came out with her cackling wicthy friends. One look at me, and she started to insult the faded pink shirt I was wearing that’s apparently too juvenile. Then she mocked my sneakers and said I could never carry off any other shoes because I was such a ‘dumpy’ girl. Dumpy girl?
I took that all in my stride and decided to ignore her as I waited for my Dad to come pick me up. But Shelly wasn’t done with me. She came over and asked me what kind of games I was playing and if I was trying to seduce her boyfriend in History class.
I actually laughed at her face and said that she was a paranoid freak and that I had better things to do in History than make moves on her boyfriend- like studying! I mean, okay I’ve been distracted by him and my grades are slipping…I’m digressing….
The next thing I knew, Shelly pushed me hard. It had been raining pretty hard by then for puddles to form and that’s exactly where I fell- in the deepest, murkiest puddle. My pink shirt is ruined forever!
Shelly and her friends laughed me and her stupid friends said I was a pig and made oinking sounds. They’re such idiots! I started to get up and push Shelly back, when I heard honking and saw that my Dad had come.
Shelly threw a disgusted look at me and then walked away with her bitches while I went over to the car. Nina was sitting up front and gestured that I go sit at the back. Great! I had to sit on shopping bags and newspapers until I got home.
Dad asked me how I had gotten so dirty and I lied about tripping. Nina turned to look at me with a frown but didn’t say anything. I wondered if she had seen Shelly push me. I mean it was raining hard and Dad was focusing on the road. But Nina was sitting right by the window and could have seen Shelly and me.
It turned out she had.
After lunch she came over and confronted me. She asked me straight out if Shelly was bullying me. Tired, cold and irritated that Mom hadn’t made my spaghetti for lunch, I relented and told her. She asked why and I just sat on my bed and said nothing.
Then I don’t know how, but as she kept staring at me, I told her everything. Even about Mark. When I was done, Nina sat beside me and hugged me. She said she knew Shelly was a horrid girl and asked what I intended to do.
I told her I tried to fight back but hadn’t gotten anywhere. Then Nina said she wished there was a guy Shelly liked that I could steal.
And that was when, my dearest diary, I remembered a boy Shelly used to like. He had changed schools, but I knew I could find him on one of the social media sites. Shelly had liked him since the fifth grade, but like me she had been shy and less of a bitch.
I now know what I have to do. It was time to take Shelly down!
