Read Melodies of a Madman Page 4

“Its good you understand” Hiruzen said quietly as he poured her another drink, which she downed again in short order, a faint blush appeared on her cheeks.

“Another” she demanded; he complied pouring her another. This continued for a time, before Hiruzen spoke to her of the situation.

“Reina-chan, understand this, from this moment onward, you are ‘my’ woman, you lost your freedom the moment your brother traded you for his own sake”. Reina’s eyes turned fierce as he said that, he would be making his move soon. “Despite this, I am not a cruel man, so I will give you two choices. First; if you give yourself to me, I will buy you anything you want, I’ll treat you like a queen, and who knows you might even enjoy sharing my bed”

“And what’s the second?” Reina asked, her eyes challenging. Hiruzen’s smile faltered slightly, he leaned forward, until their faces were only a few inches away.

“I’ll tie you to that bed and rape you until you’re nothing more than a bloody ragged doll, fit for nothing more than the scrap heap.” His voice deep and dark, the pretence of his kind exterior fading in an instant, his words frightened Reina, but they only served to drive her determination forward.

“So it’s fight and suffer or give up and make the most of it?” Reina summarized, taking her glass, drinking from it more slowly than before.

  “That’s right”

“Cheers” they both announced knocking their glasses together.

Reina watched quietly as the Yakuza drank, and without warning she struck, grabbing the metal dish, she then smashed the edge into Hiruzen’s temple.

Crying out in pain, he tumbled to the floor, glasses shattering. Not waiting around to see if she had hurt him, Reina made a dash for freedom, quickly reaching the door, she swung it open, running through, she was free – now all she needed to do was keep running.

“Sorry Miss, but that’s far enough” spoke a man’s voice to her left. A pair of arms seized her, cutting her attempt of freedom short.

“Kami-sama damn it!” she screamed out in frustration. Unfortunately for her, stationed outside Hiruzen’s room were two of his bodyguards. They each stood a head taller than her, their faces and heads were shaved, each wearing crisp black suits.

“Hold her still, don’t let her get away!” shouted Hiruzen, forcing himself up, blood streaming from his temple, his legs were unsteady. His breath coming out in unsteady gasps. He stumbled over to them holding his head, wincing in pain; the girl’s surprise attack had really hurt. “You sneaky little bitch” he hissed out venomously.

“Sir, are you okay?” one of the Yakuza asked.

  “I’m fine” he muttered.

“What should we do with her, Hiruzen-sama?” the other asked.

“Tie the bitch to the bed, she’s made her choice”

“Don’t you bloody dare!” she screamed out as the two suited men dragged her over to the bed, she kicked and punched for all she was worth, but sadly she ended up on that bed, her wrists and ankles tied to the bedposts by rope.

Hiruzen pulled out a knife and began cutting off her jeans and underwear; throwing the ruined garments across the room. Reina tried to hide her nakedness, but her bindings kept her exposed, her legs splayed wide open. Reina grit her teeth, holding back tears, she wouldn’t give them the satisfaction of seeing her cry.

“Heh, nice view there, I guess this is option two” Hiruzen stated, lust dripping from each word as he spoke, a noticeable bulge appearing in his pants. The old Yakuza quickly slipped out of his own clothes, eager to begin.

His men took that moment to excuse themselves; locking the door behind them. Reina’s last chance at escape vanished.

‘You need only call me and you can be saved’ the soft seductive voice whispered to Reina as the old man approached her, his penis erect.

‘Who are you?’ thought Reina desperately, not knowing why she called, perhaps she was going mad? Hiruzen was getting closer.

‘Reina hurry, let go of your pride and call me’ spoke the soft voice, though it carried a hint of urgency. Hiruzen was atop her now, straddling her, it was now or never. Reina in a spark realisation understood, if this voice was real, then she needed to call its help.

‘Please save me!’ Reina screamed out to the recesses of her mind – willing to try anything at this moment. Her sight faded, she was engulfed in a blinding red light.

  ‘Welcome Reina to my world.’

  The Scalpel Murder

  Extract taken from the prologue

“You’re gonna regret this!” John shouted as he slowly backed away, holding his switch blade with shaking hands. The shadow before him slowly approached, the pale moonlight glinting off their glasses.

“Put that silly toy down, you can’t hurt me with that” the shadow spoke with a mocking grin; slowly, gracefully drawing a scalpel from their pocket as they took another meaningful step forward. “Now just give up and let me begin the operation without a fuss”

‘Operation?’ John thought with a chill running down his spine. The previous day, John had received a note from a girl asking him out, to meet him at the Flora Gardens; a large enclosed area, filled with trees and rare flowers. It was also a well used spot for couples and general romancing. It hadn’t been the first time a girl had called him out to that spot, and John had been eager to mess around, but there had been no such girl, just a nut job with a tiny knife. “If you don’t piss off, I’ll gut you with this!” brandishing his switch blade in a more obvious manner.

“What a funny thing, that’s exactly what I’m going to do to you” laughed the assailant, slowly walking forward “...whether you run or not” they added, the shadows of the tall oaks now no longer hid the person’s face, revealing the one who had attacked him.

“Y-you?” spluttered John, before his nerves settled and a sneer stretched hungrily across his face. “Who’d have thought that you’d have the guts to mess with me, you frigid jizz container”

“Yes, it’s me” said the assailant, suddenly charging forward, scalpel at the ready.

“What the hell can a weakling like you do?!” roared John angrily, stabbing out with his switch blade, but connecting with only the air.

“Medicine is the perfect weapon...” whispered the assailant in his ear as the scalpel pierced deep into his side, John gasped out, desperately lunging out in retaliation, but the attacker skipped back out of his reach. “My nerdy studies taught me where all the bodies weak points are, I just opened your liver up” the person laughed, sounding giddy.

“Arhaaaaaa!” screamed John, holding onto his side, as it spewed blood and other fluids.

“I also coated my scalpel with a very concentrated dose of Benzodiazepines, so that’s enough foul talking out of you” they added, fondly toying with the drug-edged surgical blade.

John’s eyes grew heavy; his muscles felt hollow and feeble, his mind began to go dark. “Sa...Sar...” he muttered weakly, before falling to his knees as the drugs took effect.

“Now, let’s begin tonight’s operation, what should I extract from you, my dear thug?” his attacker pondered as John made a vain attempts to glare and move. But it was useless. Inside the Flora Gardens, not a one heard a single scream as the surgical murder proceeded; the drugs sealing the lips of the victim.

  ***

“The Bone Thief, what the hell is that?” asked Michael, glancing at the drunkard who was nattering at him. Not that he was in any position to talk, having spent the last six hours inside the local pub. Michael however was proud to admit that he could keep his wits about him, no matter how much he drank.

“Some pervert whose been killing wild animals, and taking out their bones...messed up ain’t it?” replied the drunk, laughing as he chugged down another beer; spilling half of it down the front of his shirt, flailing about with his oversized hands.

“Really?” Michael muttered, his eyes briefly shimmering with interest. “How’d you know about that?”

“Heh, interested, how about you buy me a pint then?” asked the drunk, his eyes suddenly sharper, shrewder; his hands gesturing to his now empty glass. Information was something that Detective Michael always kept an ear out for. Even if it was just rumours on animal killers, sighing, he reached for his wallet.

“Fine, but if you lie to me, you’ll get a fist” muttered Michael darkly, calling the Barmaid over. The drunkard chuckled at that, not seeming the least offended.

“I ain’t lying” the drunk replied, sounding much more sober than before, taking a sip of his beer, before setting it down with a loud clatter.

‘An informant?’ guessed Michael, now he was interested, why would an informant tell him about an animal killer? “Alright, I got you a beer, so let’s hear it”

“Well it started about six months ago, every three to four weeks, an animal corpse would turn up outside the animal hospital, you know - up by Piccolo Road, but the corpse has had all the bones in its body removed and then stitched back up, guts and everything else jammed back in.”

  “What?”

“I hear it’s a real neat job too, the kind you’d expect off a really skilled Doctor, like a Surgeon” the drunk took a big gulp of his beer “they’re probably trying to get some practice in, but they should really do that with humans, unless they want to be a vet or something...” he laughed darkly at that, before quickly finishing his pint.

‘This guy’s dangerous’ thought Michael, feeling a little uneasy that he hadn’t brought his gun with him, all that he had was his walking stick, now that his legs and hips had gone bad on him.

“Well, thanks for the drink, later” said the drunk suddenly, giving a sloppy bow, before ambling out the door.

“Yeah, later” replied Michael ‘...there’s something going on here...’

“Well that’s odd” noted the Bartender, taking away the empty glasses as Michael silently stared at his half empty one.

“Oh, what is?” asked Michael, with a sideways glance.

“That guy never leaves here early, I’ve had to chuck him out every night for the last...it must be half a year, he just sits here all day, getting pissed, not that I mind the business” laughed the Bartender.

“Maybe he just ran out of cash?” suggested Michael, downing the last of his drink “well, thanks for the booze, probably see you tomorrow” slowly leaving his seat.

“I have no problems with new repeat customers, have a nice evening” laughed the Bartender with a friendly smile.

Leaving the pub, Michael took a deep breath of fresh night air as the starry sky greeted him. “Damn, my head’s gonna hurt tomorrow” he sighed, slowly limping away, leaning heavily on his walking stick for support. He could walk and even run, but only for short periods of time, but then his hips would leave him in agony for hours after, but his stick helped to keep some of the weight off them.

Michael had recently turned fifty-nine, and he now owned the small detective business at the centre of town, though it was just him working there at the moment.

In his many years he had worked a variety of vocations, from being a maintenance worker in an American military base, to plumbing and decorating, but Michael had spent the last twenty years serving in the metropolitan police force, but due to him assaulting his commanding officer some midsummer’s eve, he’d no choice but to start out life afresh in this town, as a private detective.

“Uh...I shouldn’t think about such things” he thought, shaking his head of the past.

Passing under the dim lights, Michael saw someone approaching; he was tall and heavily built, with very thick muscles. Something about the way the man walked, immediately caught Michael’s attention, it was too fluid; the way a pro, or a seasoned fighter would move.

As the two passed, their eyes met, and Michael felt a chill at the coldness in the young man’s eyes, they made the gaze of a murderer look like a whimpering child by comparison. They passed each other without comment and the man soon disappeared into the shadows of the night.

“There are lots of dangerous people in this town” muttered Michael to himself, before carrying on back to his home. Well if that was the case, then at least it would bring in plenty of work. ‘Why was he carrying a medical kit?’ the old detective wondered in passing curiosity.
