  "That's what I'm telling you. He wasn't kidnapped. He was killed by a hobgoblin."

  "Listen, if you're too scared to help a stranded kitten, fine. But don't make up such horrible stories, it's just wrong."

  "Please Shelby, don't go." I held my hands together like I was in prayer.

  She started to walk into the woods, then turned and glared at me. "And you can forget about me saving a dance for you at the Spring Fling." Then she marched back into the woods.

  As I pressed my hands over my ears I thought, She's right, we won't be having that dance.
