stricken after ONE LIFE’s cancellation. The show hadn’t even really ended at that point; I hadn’t even done THE VIEW yet [for the ONE LIFE send-off before ONE LIFE’s final episode]. THE HOME SHOPPING NETWORK people called on Saturday to ask me to do an appearance [for another No! No! Hair Removal promo], which was great because it would help keep my mind off ONE LIFE and it’s always a good financial gig for me. Two hours later, Frank Valentini calls me and asked if I wanted to come out and play on GH. This is before anyone had signed contracts with GH. He said, “Maybe there’ll be more episodes for you to film but right now it’s a short-term visit.” On Monday, I go by my agents because I was going on an audition and they tell me that GH wanted me to head over there… which I knew already. Frank just called me informally to see if I was interested. Well, two hours after that, my agent tells me B&B called and that they were offering me a part! I was like, “What?” My agent said it was the same offer as GH: four or six days of work. My agent suggested I talked to Brad but I was like, “I don’t need to talk to Brad because I would love to do it.” But I had to find out if GH and B&B would overlap because no network wants the same actor to air at the same time on two networks. When I got home, I called Frank because I wanted to do all of it: B&B, HSN and GH. But Frank didn’t want me to do B&B. So I turned it down. I never ended up speaking to Brad. I told Hillary B. Smith to go for it — and she got it.

The fact that Brad thought of you as the first ONE LIFE actor to play a new role is a huge compliment.

It totally is! In hindsight, it probably would’ve been better had I done B&B because Stacy ended up being a 15-episode gig, which could have been more because my take could have been different than Hillary’s.

You could still play Kristen Forrester! But B&B’s cast is so bloated right now. I would like to see you on Y&R as a new Ashley Abbott. Thoughts?

I think it would be great fun. It’s one of those things where I would figure out how to keep my life in New York and work in L.A. but other people have done it.

Crystal Chappell did it for almost a decade: She lived in L.A. and worked in New York while she was on GL.

I would even do a recurring role because no one is going to pay an actor to commute from two coasts anymore. But, yes, I would do it.

You’ve paid your respects to GH so no one can fault you. It’s time for you to think about your future. Can you imagine the chemistry between you and Peter Bergman? Talk about a show with a cast of strong leading men!

Peter’s great. He’s always said in interviews that he’s been dying to work with me. He’s always made me feel special. He’s such a lovely man. Talk about going back in time, I remember when he was Cliff on AMC! Ashley is such an important role… so it would be interesting.

You and Stephen Nichols would also be an interesting duo. What’s your relationship with [former GH/ONE LIFE producer and current Y&R showrunner], Jill Farren Phelps? Wouldn’t that be ironic, if you went from working with Frank at GH to Jill at Y&R!

Jill was never one way or the other with me. She certainly had her favourites. She brought Skye on to ONE LIFE, which I loved because I liked the Skye-Blair dynamic. She doesn’t not like me, you know? She’s a smart woman.

I’m still shocked you don’t have an Emmy Award. What are doing for next year’s DAYTIME EMMY AWARDS because you are eligible under GH and ONE LIFE. Because I think the ONE LIFE spot will go to Erika Slezak for her unforgettable soap opera speech, I think you’d be better served if you submitted yourself under supporting for GH with the stuff is Hope’s death . Thoughts?

I don’t think Frank would allow me to go under GH’s roster because I’m not on contract.

Well, he doesn’t have final say: anyone can submit himself or herself for an Emmy under any category he or she so chooses! What did you have anything in January on ONE LIFE?

There were some nice goodbye scenes. There was some good stuff with Todd at New Year’s. Maybe the last episode.

Put yourself in the race. It doesn’t hurt.

Well, I don’t even know when we need to do all that stuff because, when you’re not on a show, you don’t have a producer throwing out deadlines, etc.

Well, I’ll tell you! There definitely won’t be eight leading women in the Best Actress race this time! [Laughs] What’s your favourite Blair moment?

Oh, God: There are so many great Blair moments. It would have to be the live show [we did in 2002 when Blair learned Todd lied about Jack being dead]. That was also the scariest moment in my career. I did not want to do it. I remember telling [then-producer Gary Tomlin], “Please, you guys can go live, but don’t let me do it because I’m too scared.” It was an awful experience but it was very rewarding.
