He returns the smile, but it is sad… hopeless. “Wrong. I don’t do relationships, and you deserve more than that. It would only ever be a f**k. In fact, I’ll be hitting up One Night Only soon. ”

With that, he turns away and walks out of my office, closing the door softly behind him.

He’s an ass**le. There is no doubt about that. But I have a feeling he’s a pathetically damaged ass**le, and something has made him this way. That makes me feel sorry for him, even though his words cut pretty deep.

He may act like this is about nothing more than blowing a nut, but that is definitely where I catch him in a lie. There is more to him… I know it.

I know it because men that are just interested in banging out a quick orgasm don’t take their time to go down on a woman. They do that because they want the woman to feel exquisite pleasure. That takes a certain level of caring.

Matt may pretend he’s all hard-hearted, but there is something inside of him that glows warm.

Unfortunately, it’s not up to me to be the one to fan that into something else. He’s made it clear that I’m not what he wants or needs. He eloquently stated that when he told me he’d be hitting up One Night Only again.

The thought of Matt ha**ng s*x with another woman causes jealousy to flare up inside of me, but I tamp it down. I have no claim to him, and it’s time to put on my big girl panties and concentrate on my job.

From here on out, Matt and I will nurture a strictly business, completely professional relationship. I will look to him to mentor me as a lawyer, and I will learn how to become the best litigator that I can be.

This will sustain me. I’ll make sure of it.

Even as something deep inside me whispers, This isn’t over.
