Kate enjoyed her newly “discovered” confidence and just letting herself go made all the difference. So, she still had some trust. And she would gladly give it all to the old folk and the kind stranger who gave her the knowledge and the guts to put it into play. She wished she could thank the encouraging voice. Was he real? Was he another god?
She hoped, one day she could put her money where her mouth is and learn how to work the stones. Boy did she pull some bullshit lines on Marone.
So was this the kick start she needed to start believing in herself?
Was it that easy?
Kate had demanded to speak to Talokta. Marone was still in shock and wisely decided to cooperate. This was over his head. Being at a disadvantage was hugely embarrassing. Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Talokta’s handsome face appeared on the monitor. He looked pale and a little worse for wear.
“Kate, it is so good to see you again. Are you okay? They haven’t hurt you?”
“Chill, Talokta. I’m fine. I’ve just given a little lesson to your fellow master, Marone here. I’ll fill you in when I’m back. I hope you have been treating my team and colleagues well?”
“They are fine. I will send my men over to transfer you back.”
“No need, these gents will escort me, the old fashion way. Don’t worry they won’t try a thing. Give me ten minutes and I’ll be back aboard, I promise.”
He looked into her happy sparkling eyes, and made his decision. “Right, I’ll see you shortly. Make sure they keep their communication link open. I want to speak to Marone.”
A gray-faced Marone silently stared at his adversary.
“Any tricks and I’ll blow your ship within two seconds, you have my word.” It was his turn to cut transmission.
Talokta’s heart pounded. Whatever Kalvich had done was nothing short of a miracle to have a reaction like he just witnessed. He was relieved to see Kate again. In fact, he surprised himself by just how much he had missed her. That was something he had to put in check immediately. Thoughts of affection, especially inappropriate feelings were nothing short of blasphemy. Manutaai was a prime example.
Talokta had his mission parameters. His master had given the mind reading gift to him for this specific mission. He was hoping to retain it, along with his life.
He personally monitored Marone’s vessel and the ship escorting Kate back. She is not afraid of space travel, another good sign.
Once she was safely aboard, he contacted Kalvich to update him.
