  Chapter 2

When I came around I found myself in a small room, the young human girl who had been with the vampires when I meet them was at my beside and it was then that I realised that I had grown up with the young girl her name was Tabatha we had been friends since the day I had arrived at the orphanage. As children we had run through the orphanage together, unfortunately as we grew older we had been forced apart, the caretakers believed that we shared an unnatural relationship for two young girls. I looked up at Tabatha she was still as beautiful as the last time I had seen her, my heart sank when I realised where we were. I couldn't figure it out what was her connection to all this, why had they taken her the very someday that I had been forced to flee. I was about to ask her what was going on when someone else entered the room.

"Oh good you have come around, you gave us quite a scare collapsing like that," she said then turning to Tabatha she added, "now that we know she is alright would you please go and eat you will be of no help to Opal if you die of starvation."

Tabatha just sat there and shook her head and reached for my hand, "I will not leave her side we have been forced apart for too long. If I must eat I will eat here at her bedside."

"Do I need to remind you of what is at stake here?"

"I know what is at stake and I know that we both must find males of our kind but I will not resist what I feel for her, just because we are close to the only two surviving females of our kind doesn’t mean that we should resist what we feel towards each other," tears be welled up in Tabatha’s eyes when she spoke, "If you think that our feelings will get in the way of our destiny we have you kept us here together?"

"We thought that we could trust the two of you to make the right decision in the end."

"We will do what we can to help insure the survival of our race, but we will not be forced apart again. Maybe we will find men and have children but I intended to spend my life with Opal, my mate will just have to accept me for who I am, if others of my kind can't accept me for who I am then maybe I don't want to see it saved."

"I hope that one day you will feel differently about that," the vampire said and turned to walk away, "but for now if it is what you wish it is not my place to stop you."

I was in shock everything was happening so fast I barely had time to take it all in first I had witnessed my brother’s murder at the hands of the people who had killed the people I had believed to be our parents, I had been forced to run from the only home I had known for the last 7 years of my life, come face to face with a pair of vampires who had told me that I was one of the last survivors of a once great and powerful race and it was now up to me to ensure its survival, to top things of I had just found out that my only childhood friend was also a fey who shared my destiny and that her desire to be with me was so strong she was prepared to turn her back on insuring our races survival should she be unable to find a mate that would accept her for who she was. I had completely forgotten that Tabatha was still in the room until I felt her soft lips press against my check, snapping out of my thoughts I looked up into her deep blue eyes and smiled, she had been there for me as a child when I had lost my parents, she had held me on the many lonely nights at the orphanage when I couldn't sleep and now she was at my side again ready to face whatever the world would throw at us, at that moment nothing else mattered as long as she was in my life there was nothing I couldn't handle and for the first time since I had lost my brother I felt totally safe. Without thinking about what I was doing I shuffled over on the bed and pated the spot next to me indicating for her to come and lay next to me, she hesitated at first but eventually came and lay beside me I wrapped my arms around her and rested my head on her shoulder. There was one question I had to ask her before we both fell asleep.

“How long have you know about our heritage?”

“Since the day we first met I knew that we were the same but different from the other kids, but it wasn’t until late last year when your brother realised what I was and took me to the vampires for help that I found out the whole truth.”

“Why did he take you to get their help but not me I don’t understand?”

“He wanted to be the one that explained your heritage to you and he didn’t feel that he knew enough about the type of fey I am to properly explain it all to me.”

I was lost for words my brother had known what we were all along and never said a word to me about it. The secrets that surrounded my family just seemed to get deeper the more I found out. I snuggled in closer to Tabatha kissed her on the neck.

“I love you Opal nothing is ever going to change that.”

“I know,” I replied sleepily, “promise me that in the morning you will explain more about the different types of fey.”

“I promise anything you want to know I will do my best to explain.”

She leant over gently kissed me on the forehead and within minutes we were both asleep, neither knowing nor caring what was in store when we awoke.
