someone who has done the things he has done will never change” Henriet says. “No you would not. Believe me father you would not have” Allan says. Henriet raises his head up and looks at Allan right in the eye. He then says “is that so. You have always been closer to him than I ever was. Maybe you would know better. In any case, you can’t count on one hand how many people’s deaths he has been responsible for” Henriet says. “I promise to you father he and I will unite all of Paradon. The united Paradon you have always imagined. It is going to happen but it cannot be done without Elis” Allan says staunchly. Henriet lays his head back down and says “I am trusting you, son”.
Elis returns to Ohith a month later. He reaches its gates in the afternoon. The city that has changed his life so many times and has led him to this point. The guards stare at him as he walks through the city gates, speechless but their stares were not pleasant. He walks down the main street and the people give him the same stares. He guides his horse by the muzzle down, keeping his distance from the angered people but soon a crowd begins to form around him, the people pour onto the streets and surround him. “I am sorry” Elis says, looking down at the ground as he continues to walk. A piece of rotten cabbage is then thrown at him from within the crowd. Elis does not retaliate. He can hear cursing and anger; he just blocks the noise and continues walking. He pushes people out of his way and eventually makes it to the palace gate. Allan was waiting for him. The gate opens and the two make their way into the palace.
“The palace looks great” Elis says. “It does, doesn’t it” Allan says. “Thank you, Allan. You are keeping me alive when everyone else wants me dead” Elis says. “You are being kept alive because you are my brother and I love you. Also, I need you to help me in my goal and father’s goal to change all Paradon for the better” Allan says. “All Paradon?” Elis asks. “Yes, not just Livonia but Doomenheim well. I think this world has seen enough of conflict and you are capable of inducing such change, I know it” Allan says. Elis nods replies with graciousness and happiness that his brother has accepted him “I will do what I can for Livonia and Doomenheim. You are king and I will be doing as you will it”. “No that is not how it is going to be. I am not your leader, you and I are equals whatever the situation is” Allan says. Elis smiles and nods in acknowledgement. The two then go upstairs and Elis is left alone in his father’s room with Henriet. “You” Henriet. “Yes father, me” Elis says. “Your brother let you live it seems. He loves you. I don’t know if it is naïve to trust you or wise” Henriet says. Elis remains quiet. “You have disappointed me many times Elis. Far more than your brother” Henriet says. “Father, you never gave me a chance” Elis says, his eyes starting to get misty. There was silence for a short time. Until Henriet says “I cannot forgive you for what you have done but I can apologize to you. I lost my wife when you were born, I was heart wrenched and for no good reason I would ignore you and place you beneath your brother. You were also mischievous from the start. And I drifted further apart from you. I did not keep my eye on you and you strayed down the wrong path. That was my doing. In a way, I caused all of this” Henriet says. “Don’t be sorry father. You are a great man. The improvements you brought to Livonia are hard to match but Allan and I will live in your legacy and better it in the years we have” Elis says. Henriet suddenly breaks a smile.
Suddenly however he starts to shake. Elis is scared out of his mind, his father’s eyes are beginning to close. Elis cries out for Allan and the doctors. They rush in. Allan grips his father’s hand. He feels his father gripping back. “No! Father!” Allan cries. The doctors monitor his heart rate and medicine is brought. The doctor tries to force hot medicine down his mouth in a desperate bid to save him. It was to no avail. They were losing him. Allan could feel the initially strong grip start to fade. All they could do was watch the golden life leave the eyes of one Paradon’s greatest men. His heart stops. And his grip ceases for the last time.
A year later, Allan and Elis are overseeing a joint goblin and Human farming settlement. Paradon has progressed so much towards peace that the wall no longer serves any purpose but remains as a testament to a war ridden past. Settlements with different races have sprung up all over Paradon, the north the west and the south. This was the new dawn for Paradon. What Elis and Allan have achieved together in their father’s legacy, with their comrades and Allies is not stopping anytime soon. Paradon is stronger. It was finally what is meant to be in the beginning.
The brothers stare at the horizon. This was on the eastern coast of Central Paradon not far from the deserts Elis had marched through years earlier. Allan says “the west has been discovered. What about the east? There could be an eastern frontier just as in the west”. “There probably is an eastern frontier to discover. And what about what is beyond the mountains in the west?” Elis says. “Should we find out?” Allan asks. Elis flashes smile and nods.
For Trolgar, Nero, Capurnicus, Pavis and the many others whose lives have been changed over the course, the future dawns bright. They will be alongside Allan and Elis till the end. In the many years to come Paradon will remain a peaceful land for all.
The brothers still have a great amount of time ahead of them in their lives. They are only in their mid-twenties. The end of their story is nowhere near in sight. And it seems the future of Paradon is in good hands.
