Read Poetry Pure and Simple Page 2

  those deceptions paid homage, lying,

bad dreams were mine from that moment,

nightmares so fierce and real, they hurt,

when white powder and I, became one.

Deceit, tongue unchecked, spat out lies,

unholy deeds within the graveyards done,

satanic gestures acted out in dim humour,

the pit of darkness, hung within my soul,

drowning me in an all-engulfing slime,

white powder, my captor, and master.

Then came release, the whitest of light,

drawing me closer, ever closer, calmly,

the light was beautiful, ever so peaceful,

and held like a moth to a flame, I moved,

and I felt no more pain, only deepest love,

now in pitch-black, ice-cold, and lonely.

  Pirouette

  Darkly appears the mighty shroud,

  calm, seductive, almost ghostlike:

  deception is the key.

  Darkly begins the shimmering swirl,

  a pirouette of ever-growing speed:

  fury confined in spiral grip.

  Darkly now the unchecked rage,

  racing, shredding, ripping, fierce:

  violence done with thunderous voice.

  Darkly leaves the twisting force,

  departing in thoughtless grace:

  leaving behind a broken land.

  Darkly arrives the shattered dreams,

splintered homes and loss of life:

  terror visiting from above.

  Darkly are the furrowed brows,

  heavy hearts, forlorn, and lost:

  hopes dashed by crushing blow.

  Darkly will return once more,

  the pirouette of deadly grace:

  destruction without shame.

  Eight

8 is a number formed by two noughts,

  vertically combined and united forever,

like soul mates where love is the key,

  joined together throughout eternity.

8 is a number formed by two threes,

attached face to face for all time,

a pair connected by destiny it’s true,

the lucky number created for you!

  Timberland

In silvered landscape roam the hunting pack,

senses aroused from scent upon the chilled air,

growling, howling, knowing their prey is near,

their fangs glistening bright with a moonlit night,

powerful jaws ready and prepared to tear.

Deer in sight, not far, the chase begins,

snarling, panting, zigzagging with artful skill,

hunters' sounds, a pack ready for their kill,

prey brought down and the pack surrounds,

jaws tight on throat, the ripping starts.

Steamy red flows from sheared deer skin,

it struggles hard, kicking out with fear,

with bulging eyes, deer gasps for every breath,

yet the struggle will always be in vain,

for in one moment will come death.

  Tomorrow’s Seeds

Woodland path of turns and twists

a walkway leading to bravest deeds,

  onwards under a white-dappled sky

towards the timeless tapestry woven there,

  within a multicoloured meadow.

Just rising now the ghostlike hazy hue

that is lifted by the ascending sun,

perhaps the souls of a time remembered

who remain to witness a time once here,

where duty fulfilled and bravely done.

  Each flower-head displays its respect

by dropping curtsies upon the breeze,

in honour of those who have fallen here

that their memories shall be forever kept,

  within tomorrow’s seeds.

  Walk With Me ...

Walk with me upon grounds anew and aged,

To places green, or flat, or rolling,

Where seas of colour does meet the eye,

  And fauna rules majestic.

Walk with me through the senses four,

To reach the pain or pleasure felt there,

See all that is, and evermore shall be,

  Where emotions point the way.

Walk with me along imaginary paths,

To discover all that we may dream,

The dark or lighted zones of thought,

Endowed at the moment of conception.

  Winter’s Breath

Swift and sharp the winter’s breath

rushing through wood and o’er hill,

  stiffened soil and crystallised brook

the gift of the seasonal chill.

Grey skies loiter in sombre mood

  afore releasing frost-flecked tears,

gone the sound of musical streams

and the tinkle of water over weirs.

No more melody of trickling falls

or children’s laughter in a sunlit field,

for winter’s breath is bitterly cold --

a time when nature is forced to yield.

  Snow-topped hedgerows along a lane

birds flew south several weeks before,

winter’s breath will surely be here

when the wind turns to a roar!

  Waken Land

Waken land, new day is here,

Show thyself in all thy glory,

Release thy scents into the air,

That I may breathe thy beauty.

Waken land, new day is here,

  Bring on thy children’s faces,

New life to explore thy majesty,

Fawn and lamb, fledgling and cub.

Waken land, new day is here,

Stir thy mighty rivers to run,

  Wherein fish and spawn exist,

  And water sparkles under sun.

Waken land, new day is here,

Free thy breath to hill and crag,

  Blow o’er mountain-tops of white,

Rush o’er vale and open moor.

Waken land, new day is here,

Dismiss all darkened mass on high,

And let golden light upon thy face,

  For new day is here.

  Legend Of The Glens

  Landlocked water with secret there,

Ringed by hills and oft’ seen glens,

Ripples born by a whispered breeze,

Coming to rest ‘pon greeny shore,

  Bubbles rising from depths unseen,

  Breaking surface shallows plumbed,

  A gas-filled pocket’s sudden surge,

  Or unknown creature’s exhaled breath?

Seasons four have passed slowly by,

  With landlocked water’s secret kept,

Heather trampled in search of truth,

Watchful eyes that ne’er miss a sign,

Flasks raised up towards eager mouths,

  Heart-warming liquid taken in sips,

  Sighting captured by camera’s lens,

Or plaid-born legend of the glens?

  The Demonic Dream

  Scarlet-eyed demons surround me,

  fearsome creatures from beyond,

  prancing, gesturing, licking lips,

waiting for the moment to strike,

all baying to tear off my flesh,

wanting first taste of my blood -

  before munching upon my bones.

I stand rigid with sheer terror,

watching as the demons close in,

my heart races to bursting point,

yet I can do nothing but look on,

I’m frozen in this space and time,

a helpless sacrifice to the devil -

an innocent meal to ignoble evil.

Their grinning faces taunt me so,

knowing I’m unable to escape them,

  scarlet-eyes mocking me mercilessly,

  spindly fingers pointing toward me,
/>
pointed ears hearing my inner cries,

but I cannot move a single muscle -

and in moments I will see death.

Suddenly my senses are spurred on,

and I feel my strength returning,

my whole body starts to jerk wildly,

with my breath laboured, then rapid,

  violently my head twists to-and-fro,

and I have woken in total darkness -

  escaping from that captive dream.

  Sacred Place

  Sacred stones above sacred bones,

  Sombre yews in mourning stand,

  Guardians of cold limestone flags,

Keepers of the gates to eternity,

  Timeless in their brooding grace,

  And hidden ‘neath wrinkled boughs,

  Innumerable dreams laid to rest,

Kept in archives of memories past,

Cradled in the arms of fallen branch,

Caressed by shroud of golden leaf,

And daily kissed by gentle breeze,

  Forever are yesteryear’s interred.

  December 25th

Freedom to roam a war-free globe,

Sail safely a sea’s changing mood,

Set foot on peaceful distant land,

Travel widely across a friendly skies,

  Meet people wearing warming smiles,

  Walk unafraid down dim-lit streets,

Cross open fields without a care,

Go out at night in danger-free towns,

To exist without fear or hate or threat,

Given me by right of birth from God,

On this, the day of Christ’s birth.

  Knowing You

I have touched a good heart

and the pleasure it gave me

  will live on forever.

  I have witnessed truest care

and known the purest form of

  adoration.

  I have enjoyed intensive love

  and been party to something

  very special.

  I have felt utter well-being

and returned that sense to the

  person who merits it.

  I have heard innermost thoughts

  which your unspoken words say

  and reveal.

I have known what loyalty is

and discovered in me the man

  I am today.

I have loved you from the start

with all that is my very being

and will do so until darkness.

And yet when my eternal slumber

has come and I no longer see you

  my heart will remain yours.

  A Kiss

  Eyes meet

  body meets body,

  tingling inside.

  Lips meeting,

  eyelids closing,

  heartbeat rising.

  Fingers entwining,

  gripping tighter,

  veins pulsating.

  Emotions swelling,

  senses heightening,

  exciting.

  Lips pressing,

  two hearts pounding,

  lust.

  Mouths parting,

  eyelids opening,

  smiling.

  Catching breath,

  eyes staring,

  love.

  Lips draw closer,

  repeated thrill,

  a kiss!

  Along Woodland Path

Along woodland path of snaking twists, I strolled,

listening to the throng of calls from creatures that there exist.

Strewn like confetti, leaves of brown, and leaves of gold,

once gave life to towering trunks, its threading boughs,

and yet still do - but to the soil.

A well-worn path which leads the way to somewhere there,

to sunlit glade, its perimeter giving shade when sun's too hot,

or hiding place when danger comes.

Aloft the black shapes are cawing, soaring among the canopy,

searching for morsels of food, challenging one another again,

but what are the thoughts of rooks, ravens, crows?

Then bolting into the open, giddy, directionless, is the hare,

zigzagging, stopping, starting, and then whizzing off dizzily,

instantly vanishing - no longer there.

Onward along the woodland path, seeing nature as a whole,

enjoying the symphony of combined song of caws, squawks,

and coos - arias all, a summer song.

  Ages Past

Lain beneath my feet are the memories,

those of once dew-kissed sweet grass,

of blooms waking under heated air,

with lark and nightingale ballad there,

bleat and call of stag's misty breath,

  memories of yesteryear.

Once were horsemen dressed steely bright,

  minstrels, monks, and woodsmen too,

  bodies toiling, rinkled sweated brow,

  oxen-drawn carts delivered finest ale,

served by maidens with fairest skin,

  ages past rest here within.

  Tomorrow shall bring memories anew,

of sparrows song and vixen's call,

blooms that waken under shafts of gold,

stalks that dance gently to the breeze,

again sweet grass to cast scent upon air,

new memories created for all to share.

  Strangers

  Strangers in a busy room,

  muffled whispers, knowing looks,

nods at you, shared soft asides,

  you nod back, stranger agrees,

  hands unite, substance given,

  cash exchanged, stranger leaves.

You pop pill, buy another drink,

  music's pulsating, heart pounding,

start the dancing, drink more fluid,

  dancing faster, music's racing,

  muscles straining, heartbeat faster,

  sirens wailing - sudden death.

  A Way

  Carry not a broken heart

  when mourning time is ended,

shed your tears for what is lost

that they may feel you're there.

Should you look on darkest cloud

a silver lining can always be found,

for when the heavy tears are shed

  only lighter rain can fall.

Despair not of walking darkest road

for you shall make the wiser turn,

mark all paths you ventured wrong

  till destiny points your way.

Remember always life is a journey

and only time will reveal its end,

if a lifetime of truth you choose today

good tidings to you will find their way.

And finally, I've included a little tribute to the late Princess Diana, who I'm sure would have gone on to achieve more wonderful deeds had she not been taken so young.

  Angel Who Kissed Our Hearts

Rest ye well within thine eternal sleep, Diana,

Knowing thy mortal image shall be cherished by all,

Carried aboard the drifting vessels we have become,

Until we see you again in the Kingdom Of Heaven.

Aye, rest peaceful in thy eternal sleep, Diana,

For thy beauty is recorded in all that we will see,

As finest silk does recall to us thy perfect skin,

And scarlet rose thy soft-spoken lips.

Do rest easy within thine eternal sleep, Diana,

And let thy spiritual-form rightly take its cloud,

For you were the angel who kissed our hearts,

  As was Christ's intent.
