Sandy Waitland excused herself to the ladies room hoping her cell phone would have enough signal to call or at least text message Dr. Wellons so she could tell him that she and six other guest at the benefit dinner….everyone at the head table would be retiring to George Galbin’s home for after dinner cocktails. She then made a second call to Detective Sergeant Craigent who answered the call immediately. “Look Pal. I know the truth. John Fornsworthy is right. He isn’t crazy. I don’t know how but he is right about Galbin being a killer and probably a cannibal. I am heading for his house with a group of other guests. Please be there.”

Her time was up. Sandy rang off before the detective could answer. She went out and joined the group who were making their way out to their cars…or taxi if they had, had too many glasses of wine served with dinner. Sandy rode with George Galbin who attend the due in a limousine, driven apparently by his chauffer.

“I know who you are what you do for a living and why you came to the dinner Ms. Waitland... You are investigating me in an attempt to help that poor fellow…what’s his name….oh yes….John Fornsworthy….who shot me in the head because he believes I am a monster who has been going around killing people and eating them.” George Galbin announced with words carried on a vibration of humour.

“I suppose it wouldn’t do any good to try and deny it Galbin. And my guess is it is true.” Sandy replied and since I know this you are probably taking me to kill me. But I assure you that won’t happen because I have the doctors on the way to your place.”

“My dear Ms. Waitland. You are quite right. I have an affinity for Human flesh and do keep my freezer well supplied but as for killing you now….well that would be foolish. Too many people saw us leave together. You are safe for the moment. However….as for the good Doctors I would not count on them for help. They….well….let us just say….they have been guests in my home for dinner many times and I suspect they will be joining us this evening for drinks.”

“Let me out now.” Sandy demanded.

“I think not Ms. Waitland. I insist you join us for drinks then Matton, my chauffer will drive you home. Will you not Matton?”

  “My pleasure Sir.”

“And you will make sure she gets home safely.”

  “Indeed Sir.”

“There now. You see. This old monster is not so horrible after all….don’t you think?”

The limo pulled into the drive of Galbin’s Edwardian home. Matton was quickly out his door and opening the rear passenger side door for Sandy. He helped her gently to her feet. Then George Galbin existed the car and took Sandy gently by the elbow and guided her to the front door of the house. William the butler was at hand to admit them and several others who had arrived just behind Galbin.

In the lobby they were met by the two doctors, Mayns and Wellon.

“Where is Fornsworthy? Isn’t he in on this too?” Sandy snapped angrily.

“Hell no. But he is here….is he not William.” Galbin asked.

“He is sir but a bit indisposed at the moment. I suspect though we shall see him a little later.”

  “Excellent.”

Sandy closed the door to her apartment. Galbin had kept his word…maybe because Sergeant Craigent showed up at his door or maybe because he had no intention of killing her….just yet. But she knew….she knew too much and sooner or later Galbin or one of his cohorts would hunt her down and add her to the menu…..At least they would try.

She knew John Fornsworthy had met that fate and it sickened her.

“Detective Craigent. I can’t just sit around and wait for them to come. You have to believe me John Fornsworthy was not insane. George Galbin is exactly who John said he is.”

“I know. I know.” Craigent’s voice eased into her tortured thoughts then she felt the blade of a knife cut into her rib cage. “I know Sandy.” Craigent’s voice ushered her into death.

  THE END
