The guards didn’t know why they felt uneasy all of a sudden. They were supposed to be relaxing, in a room that was virtually soundproof. It was Attix’s version of R&R. The lights started flickering in the guard’s quarters. Then the temperature started to drop. Slow and steady, not enough to raise an alarm, but enough to lull the guards into a deep sleep. Almost at once, the guards started dropping to the ground. The move was a combination trick that Austin and Angel that they picked up a while back. Soft lights and temperatures could put almost anyone to sleep. While stepping through the doorway to the barracks, Angel noticed a red dot on Austin’s forehead.
“Down!” Angel cried as she pushed Austin to the floor.
It wasn’t a bullet that went sailing past Austin’s head, but rather a vine.
The attack came from a few feet in front of them. Agent WildVine was standing there, his arm transformed into a mixture of different plants and flowers with a glowing rose, producing an effective red dot, a scoped vine all hardened bark. Being able to make anything he wanted made WildVine more deadly than he needed to be.
“I’m glad to see your back with us.” He sneered at Angel. “Now hand over the Specter, the boss wants to see you.” His arrogance bothered Angel.
She responded by sending an orb of light crashing into WildVine's stomach. “Out of my way!” She screamed. “This doesn't concern you.”
“Oh on the contrary, this has everything to do with all of us.” WildVine said as his rifle turned into a bastard sword.
Angel stood up straight and a weapon of her own formed. Before she could step forward, Austin blocked her way.
“No, I can handle this one. You meet up with Leon.”
A small smile appeared on Angel’s face. “Knock him dead boss.”
“You think he can handle me?” WildVine said as Angel took off down the hall.
“It’s sad how you people have no identity except the one that’s forced on you.” Austin retorted.
Swinging the sword at Austin’s head WildVine yelled in excitement, “Who needs identity when you have power?”
WildVine’s attacks were devastatingly powerful but cripplingly predictable. Austin wasn’t really trying at all as he jumped and flipped over the blade then leaned back, allowing WildVine to throw himself off balance trying to hit Austin.
He jumped again as WildVine swung with all his force. Before the swing was finished, Austin landed on top of the sword. WildVine stopped and stared up while Austin looked down “Are you done?” Austin finally asked.
WildVine’s eyes grew wide, but before he could react Austin had already put a tranquilizer dart in his shoulder.
While he was hitting the ground, Austin smiled and put another dart in the back of his neck for good measure.
