The Witch’s Curse

Bloodstone was once a quiet and happy little village just off the moors, now all that remains is a dark misty hell where even the most evil of spirits will not haunt and a curse that has no way to be lifted. It all started fifty years ago on all hallows eve' when a mysterious young woman moved into the old abandoned house that overlooks the village, then weird and mysterious things started to happen with no explanation or evidence to support them. Two young school boys decided to go up to the abandoned house where the woman was living after school for fun, they made their way up the hillside and up the rough little track that leads to the front door. On the way up they noticed bones and several bats and black cats, they carried on to the top of the track, they wandered around the side of the house to peer through the window. James the youngest boy got on the shoulders of jack the oldest boy to see through the window. He rubbed his arm on the window pane to remove the dust and looked through, a big round black pot was suspended above the fire and the woman was stood in front stirring. James continued to watch as the woman dropped eyes, flowers and bones into the mixture while chanting an unknown language. Jack was struggling to hold James and his foot slipped off the rock he was standing on, James was hanging from the window ledge. The noise of jack falling over disturbed the woman, as she whipped herself around, her black wraggy clothing seemed to float unnaturally in the air; her eyes met James, pure green and glowing. James fell from the window and tumbled into jack. The boys ran as fast as they could back down to the village, they went straight home and did not return back to the house. A week later James became ill, his parents had several doctors out to see him but they all came up with the same conclusion that they had no idea what was wrong with him. Jack was healthy and his usual self, his parents could not understand why he was ok but his friend was ill considering they spent so much time together. Later that day both sets of parent met up to discuss the boys but still had no answers by the end of it. The next day jack told his parents about going up to the house and the woman seeing James. James parents decided to go up to the house to have a look for them selves’, they went to the same window as jack did. The couple was horrified by what they witnessed that night, although they did not tell people the full story, the villagers soon came to the assumption of witchcraft.

Everyone in the village attended the village meeting the following week and planned to go to the house and witness the sorcery for themselves. The priest led the group up the snaking lane and towards the house. At the door, a smell spilled through the key holes, like rotting flesh and some sort of coppery zing. The sound sent shivers down there spines as the priest bashed on the door, everyone held tight to their weapons as footsteps echoed from beyond the solid gothic wooden door. A piercing squeak ripped through the silence as the rust old door knob turned and clicked. The door flung open. There she stood dominating the doorway with her beauty, tight black curly hair, light green mysterious eyes, pale white skins and blood red lips to compliment her breath taking bone structure. Her hair flowed down her shoulders and whipped in the breeze. Her sheer beauty instantly drew you away from the ragged old dirty rag’s that seemed to compliment her slender curves. The men of the group where hypnotized by her beauty but the women were not fooled by her flawless appearance, they could see through and stare the evil that lived within her right in the eyes. The woman invited them all in, the men all fought to get through the door, the women hesitant but polite, slowly followed behind them. The woman led them through a long hallway to the exquisite dining room that the gloomy old house held within. Several villages noticed that the woman had different sized skulls that held the black candles that glowed with such power. Each flame changed colour as it flickered into life; while the group walked passed them. The mysterious woman offered them all a homemade blend of herbal tea, all the men accepted but the women had their wits about them and stayed clear of the potent mixture that swirled by its self in the chalice’s that held it. The conversations consisted of where the woman came from and what she thought to the village, as the dark of night drew in, the group thanked the woman and headed back to the village. The women were still suspicious but kept that to themselves as they settled their families down for the night.

The next day was like a massacre throughout the village, the men woke up dead and left the world behind and the women and children woke up to horror and devastation. Two weeks later when every male was laid to rest the women of the village decided they wanted revenge, between them all they built a stake that dominated the village square, and then headed up to the house. They broke down the door and hunted the witch, they bound her hands and feet in a rope soaked in holy water. The placed a gag in her mouth made from a thorn bush that cut through her flesh revealing dark green ooze for blood. They dragged her down the road and into the village; the rope cut into her flesh as the bound her to the stake. As she clenched her teeth the thorny roots started to snap freeing her of silence. The village women lit a fire around the witch and started to cheer as it quickly grew and slowly started to burn the witch. She began a chant: exaudi me Satana dico tibi iram tuam tollere conantur exinguish vivi mortuis vitam. Fúgiant ardebit in aeterno. Fúgiant uri. uri. adolebit : over and over she chanted Satan, hear me; I call upon you, bring down your wrath upon the living dead that try to extinguish my life. Let them burn in eternity. Let them burn. Burn. Burn.

One by one the villages burst into flames and felt the torture they were issuing. Once every villager had burned to a crisp, the witch took a deep breath and let out a piercing scream that could shatter anything within a five mile radius. Then she shut her eyes and her soul lifted from her body and walked through the gates of hell.

It’s said that on every hallows eve' the former night of the witches demise, Her souls is rumor to walk the village, free from its bounds and any outside that enters the village within that day is said to be dragged alive down to hell where they will spend the rest of the miserable life.
