1:
The world had ended that day as the Four Princes took up their arms against Humanity claiming that all must die for them. They had come from another world along with their own world’s rebellion and yet, the Four Princes were full of might and devious plan. But, oh…how their original plan fell dead at their feet, hurling them into war against the Human kind for what they craved—the lands of Earth.
The Rebellion which had followed them from their previous lands gathered arms and joined with Humanity, though discriminated, to fight the Four Princes. …and the “Risen” dare stand alongside them if will was kept, though many “Risen” stood pawns to the Four Princes whom claimed their lives as theirs.
Yet, even though the world did end, life continued…Humanity still clawing at its former order though cities razed by flames.
However, Human order held no claim to the newcomers—the “Dealk”—from the other world, whose war spilled over onto Earthen soil. A new order was entwined with the Human order, one that would involve Dealk and those both sides called “Risen”.
Dealk were tall beings, structured similar to Humans though with longer arms and thick talons in place of nails. They had fair skin and fangs, all of them; yet their face, if just glanced at could pass for a Human face. Sometimes they would even seem beautiful as some humans. Despite the Dealks’ semi-human appearances, Humans attempted, at best, to disassociate with them; asides from the Humans directly involved in the war.
On the topic of the other new race upon the world: the “Risen” were once Humans who had died in the action of war, but given life anew by a Dealk varied into two types. The type that sided with Humans and Dealk were those whose will was kept, meaning that their Human soul lingered in their body; the type that kept with the Four Princes were those who were created simply as mindless tools for battle.
…On standard, neither were acceptable; and willful ones were few and far between and sometimes were mistaken as humans.
All in all, everything was part of a new world, the one that had birthed from ashes of a previous world. The Humans had to adjust to the Dealk and continue living.
Such a case as a simple Human woman... Adjusting to the new world was something one woman named Heather had to do. Humans grouped together in packs, almost like dogs; though Dealk did the same. It was a change, but it put order and security.
Humans longed for tangible aspects of their past while Dealk stayed in the present; it was one of the few things Humans understood.
Humans never did fully come to grasp the understanding that stood between Human and Dealk; how honor and humility would stand so close together. As such, many shied away from the public nature to such a private thing as bathing. Yet it was done: groups of men and women shared the same area and times to bathe.
Yet it was such a public bath that Heather encountered a figure from the past. Years it had been since she had seen the other woman—a woman she had worked with before the war. Maybe not best friends but still a friend; though anything such of the past was prized. For but a moment, Heather figured she was mistaken. No, it could not have been her—she had died after all…or so everyone had thought. Yet it was the clear sight of the tattoo of a moon and angel wings on the woman’s bare, yet scarred, back that allowed her to know that yes, indeed that woman was surly her. She knew in that moment she must speak to her. So, Heather made a move to go and speak with the woman; only…
Heather was stopped in her tracks of approaching the woman in question when a male Dealk approached the other woman; Heather paused to watch, just as curious as some others who turned their head when the male approached the Human woman.
The male Dealk, as Dealks usually did, stood far taller than the woman with the moon tattoo. He talked to her casually, calling her name to be “Silver”. As the woman referred to him, he was Harnz; he was a known servant of the rebellion.
The sight of the pair, the naked young woman and the half-clothed Dealk male talking so casually to one another, brewed discussion of loathing from many in the area whom saw the pair. The woman, Silver, and the Dealk male, Harnz, were in their own mindset away from the loathing gazes and were soon joined by another male Dealk…
The new arrival was Yuvaahnzeii—or “Zei”—a comrade and friend to both Silver and Harnz. Both male Dealk was talking and teasing the woman and yet Silver showed no affect, as she was used to the treatment from the pair. Even so, another male Dealk arrived to scold the previous too… After all, the newest arrival was Moorawisen—or “Moon”—their friend and leader.
Moon was known to be a kind Dealk; not just to his own kind but Humans as well. He was known not to discriminate against any individual—an open-minded individual. He was a perfect leader and, for a Dealk, was handsome and had long black hair.
The woman, Silver, reached for a towel that sat upon a stand and wrapped it around herself as she turned to talk to the Dealk called Moon. Whipping her long, blond, wet hair over her shoulders, she assured Moon that the pair was not bothering her at all.
By this time, the air in the bath house was tense at the presence of the three Dealk males talking to a solitary Human female. It was the woman, however, who scoffed aloud at the glares of people around them and declared that people need to just mind their own business. Her mindset had long since been corrupted by the Dealk’s drastic openness that Humans had yet to grasp.
It wasn’t long after, that the four left the area, the woman walking side-by-side with the leader of the three; Moon’s hand upon her back as they walked.
Heather stood astonished; realizing that her old friend, whom she knew as a woman named “Samina”, had been associating with the Dealk all the time she had been displaced, thus why she had heard nothing of the woman. Wanting to speak to the girl directly, Heather, dressed herself quickly, and dashed off hoping to catch the group before they left.
Silver had dressed in something similar to what Dealk wore; it was something like a robe that laced up on the sides. It fit her more like a dress, falling to her knees, as it was meant to be a shirt for Dealk men, after all. She wore black tights and sandals made out of silken ribbon; the shoes of which were also Dealk clothing.
As they four, all dressed, began to leave, Silver started braiding her wet hair. When she as just about finished, Heather had found her way in front of the four.
Silver’s green eyes met Heathers blue eyes.
“Samina?” Heather asked.
Silver froze a moment yet she quickly resumed braiding her hair until she had it tied off, “My name is Silver; I was once called Samina, however.” She replied.
Moon eyed the woman at his side before handing Silver her black bag he had been holding for her. Silver took it from him and placed the strap upon her shoulder.
Heather glanced at Moon and then back at Silver, “Um…I don’t know if you remember me but I’m…” she was cut off.
“Heather Reyes.” Silver stated. “I remember you; we worked together in the past.”
“Where have you been?” Heather asked, “Why haven’t you come to find any of those you know?”
Silver motioned to her side to Moon, “I’ve been with him. I’m part of the Dealk rebel organization; Moon, here, is the leader.”
Moon smiled slightly and nodded his head, “Pleasure to meet you.”
Heather met Moon’s light green eyes and nodded, “Um…Hello.?
??
“Look, if you want to talk to me, I’m rather busy right now; we have something to take care of back at headquarters.” Silver stated.
Moon glanced at Silver, “But, if you want,” he looked at Heather, “you can talk to her there, after our meeting.”
Silver glanced at him sharply; Moon nodded. Silver sighed, “Yeah, if you want; I mean,” she looked at Heather, “if you feel uncomfortable coming to the headquarters, I’m not going to be offended.”
Heather was conflicted for a moment; civilian Humans didn’t just go into the rebel headquarters. There were those that cooperated with the Dealks in the rebellion but simple people didn’t even attempt to go close. It was considered dangerous; for people were afraid to be confused with the enemy…or more likely, the enemies’ pawns—soulless Risen.
Heather agreed, however, to go with them. She lingered outside the lounge where she could listen to the meeting that they had been so eager to attend. Heather was far more than confused at her old friend’s new attitude than listening to what those in the room had to discuss. She was also confused at the role she had apparently taken alongside the leader of the Dealk. It was curious and somewhat scary and she wanted to know why.
That was why Heather caught her friend in the lounge after the meeting had dispersed; only Silver and Harnz lingered in the room; Harnz doing something off to the side.
Heather took her chance and caught old friend just before she made her way to leave, “Samina, why are you acting like this? Why are you here?” she asked.
Silver stopped, apparently having hoped to avoid the conversation that would soon follow. Yet, the only way Silver knew she would had been able to stop the other woman’s questions was just tell the truth.
Silver turned to her former friend—her friend of her Human existence, “I am not who I was… that day, at the start of all of this, I found myself at the center of what would had been the destruction of the entire Human society. I met that King—the leader of the Dealk who wanted the annihilation of the Human population—and that day I fought…and killed him. However…my victory was short lived; I was confronted by four opponents whom I knew I would be unable to defeat…
“I accepted that…and the Four Princes brought death upon the Human woman named Samina, all four stabbing her through with swords through the back…
“It was then that Moorawisen, the leader of the rebel army, found me as he had witnessed what had occurred. He took pity upon me and out of both the pity and the respect for what I had done he gave me life once again. That day I became what I am…
“…I am Risen… and my name is Silver.” Silver stated. She turned away and left Heather to mull over what she had just explained.
Silver exited the room; Heather was left alone.
Harnz, who had yet to leave the room, walked up next to Heather. “She’s right, you know.”
Heather turned her gaze sharply to Harnz, startled by his presence beside her.
“Risen are not Humans; they’re not Dealk either.” Harnz stated. “She’s basically Moon’s pet to use as he pleases. The trick is, with a girl like her, though, is to just accept her for how she is. I give the girl a hard time, but really, I don’t think I could see her any other way.”
Heather merely looked at him.
Harnz grinned his wolfish grin, “If you’ll excuse me now,” he said straightening up, “I have some other work to see to.”
