“Aye,” agreed the two men who had yet to speak.
“All right,” said Jimmy as he stepped forward. “This ain’t gonna be pleasant, Mr. Wilson. But when you wake up, you’ll be one of us. Now give me your wrist.”
Isaac looked down at the four piles of dust littering the train car, a smile pulling at his lips. After nearly fifty years together, Isaac had relieved himself of the burden known as his posy. Quickly after being turned into a vampire, Isaac had taken control of the group, despite Morris’ violent rebellion. Now, with a train full of Nazi contraband, Isaac found himself alone for the first time in fifty years. Granted, there was a human train conductor currently working for him in an effort to avoid death. Isaac was pretty sure the man knew his death was eminent, no matter how well he performed his duties.
The notorious thief lounged back and watched the German countryside whisk by. He already had a hired boat ready to set sail from Lübeck. The large ship was specially fitted for transporting five vampires around Europe and into the Mediterranean Sea. Of course, now there would only be one vampire. Still, he intended to travel around to Turkey and from there up into Russia. Surely one with a few million dollars in stolen Nazi gold could hide in Russia. If not, he could easily travel into China. Whatever happened, Isaac intended to settled down and enjoy his wealth. For the first time in his long life he didn’t feel the need to succeed in the next job.
Little did he realize, seventy-odd years would see him settled in a little town called Olympia in America’s Pacific Northwest and dating a pretty little, red-headed human.
Isaac watched as Ashley perused the menu at Red Lobster. Though he had the money to take her up to Seattle and dazzle her at the city’s best restaurant, he had to maintain the façade he had created for her.
Tonight was the night. Tonight he would turn her into a vampire like himself, not to spend eternity with her—he couldn’t handle another date with her annoying tendencies—to sacrifice her in a ritual as old as time.
Yes, tonight he would complete his mission and his primus could take over babysitting the sacrificial lamb.
Isaac smiled to himself.
